just throwing out all of the things about a given subject that pop into your mind without really thinking about it to get a new perspective on something or a view of a bunch of possible answers or scenarios

Brainstorming is a method of coming up with ideas...for anything, any project.

Either an individual alone or preferably a group of individuals gather together and throw out ideas for dealing with some problem or issue. While so doing, there should be no evaluation of the ideas, just make a list. Have fun.

When no more ideas are forthcoming, you can then begin to analyze each idea to see if it could be used.
