Herbs and or spices are important to me when cooking because they can enhance what I'm cooking/eating.
I like fresh herbs best for stews, soups and the like. They impart a much stronger taste if not cooked, so I use them sparingly in salads.
Spices I like best for baking - cinnamon is my favorite.

Both. A combination of both gives food the best flavor. Just think, what would a good curry, mexican food, or italian dish be without the combination of herbs and spices?

I use both equally. Why? Because I LOVE food and I LOVE the flavors that both herbs and spices enhance when I add them to a dish.

Ummmm....both. Generally, herbs are for roasts or meats and spices are for desserts. There are many exceptions, but that's generally how it goes.

A balance of matching flavors is what is key!! Use items from the same family or with the same contrasts.
