Why does he insist we rely on a document that is thousands of years old and has been edited and translated by man on countless ocassions? Why doesn't he simply write a new bible to address issues like stem cell research, sex change operations, etc?

God never wrote the first edition of the Bible, it was written by man which is why it is full of inaccuracies.

Ahhh!! You have obviously never read it! The problem with most people is that they want contemporary answers from a contemporary god (small "g" intentional). The God of Christianity is the God of creation and imparted His instructions to people over the centuries and millenia. These instructions give us a basic sense of moral values. Because of this, you will not find answers to questions like, "What kind of car should I buy?", or "Who should I get to fix my air conditioner?". I would like to point out that questions about stem cell research and cigarettes will not be found in there either.

Because the Bible gives basic moral instructions, it is necessary to break down the issue. For Example: If it is necessary to take a human life to do stem cell research, then to those people who value human life at all stages, stem cell research would be wrong. If it could be done WITHOUT taking a human life, it would be better for all concerned.

We have gone from a society which bases its morality in the teachings of written religious books (such as the Bible, the Book of Mormon, or the Koran) to how we think or feel at any particular time. Perhaps we may not FEEL like the Bible is relevant for today. Give it a closer look and I honestly think you will see what I'm trying to say.

Feelings and opinions are helpful for many things, but religion has its basis in historical writings. To ignore the writings, is to embrace ignorance of that religion.

Have you read the Bible?
Gee, why not actually examine the evidence before dismissing it so lightly?
Isn't it time that you took at least more than a disdainful approach
toward it? If you did, you would find:
1. It hasn't been edited. Proof? the writers are very
forthcoming about their own failings.
2. Re: Translation. Their is a paper trail dating to before
200BC. Even a non scholar can see that it hasn;t been
corrupted
3. The Bible includes everything a person needs to know to
receive the reward of everlasting life. Mans attempts to do
this through science (stem cells, etc),will never be realized.

God didn't write the first edition or any edition for that matter, it was misguided men who stole works of all the other civilizations before them and tried to pass it off as the Gospel truth. It's time to wake up people and pull the wool off of your eyes. If God existed as it was written in the Bible, do you really think the things that go on today would really be allowed to happen? What about all the innocent people who die every day in disasters etc., and yet all the horrible, evil minded people still walk the earth and perpetrate unbelievable acts of terror in the name of God. I believe that God exists, but not the way the Bibles of the world have depicted Him/Her. Nobody has gotten it right and I don't believe we as Humans will ever get it right as the Universe is a vast place, and we are mearly a dust mote in a Giant's eye.

That's really a question needs to think about it deeply.
As many have said, the Bible was written by man, and its history contains a lot of blind spots that needs to be searched.
As a matter of fact, human may feel that there's a need for a second edition of the Bible to be proper for the new world, but the fact is that the age of heaven rules ended, and now, human needs to develop what has been written before, and write the second edition of the Bible themselves.

God is not the author. Men and storie, myth, and at times misinterpretation is there. One book or tale is not gonna give an answer or fufill fate. you are the difference , the maker of your own, whether happy or miserable. Read more than the bible; many other religions are all based on a basic 10 rules /commandments. Those simple rules of all faiths are it! All things change but they are one. Good choices and ways or bad... you are your own "god" everyday, Freewill .. light, dark th e choice and future are your own.

Spiritist love one another. This is the first precept. Educate yourselves. That is the second. In true Christianity you will find the truth. You will find mistakes in today's Christianity, but these are purely of human origin. Here, from beyond the grave, where you thought there was nothing, our voices call to you: "Brothers and sisters, nothing dies! Jesus Christ is the victor over all wrong. You, too, can be victors over your own frailties."

Just as a bunch of semi-literate, self-opinionated MCPs wrote the highly inaccurate and utterly incongruous 'first edition' in His name, God knows that there are one-too-many ghost-writers around, who will be glad to write it themselves, for Him - if only some corporate religious body PAID them for their troubles !

Well, he can't do that at this moment.

The world is over populated and there's plenty of deaths everywhere. He is too busy deciding who goes to hell or stays with HIM in heaven.

I think the world will have to stick with the old version for a while.
