If you don't want to wait two weeks until you see your vet, he or she should still be willing to answer this question by phone.
You should also check out your local library or book store and get a book on dog keeping, not only for feeding recommendations but lots of other things one needs to know when having a dog (from your question I assume this is your first dog). Another very helpful resource is Dog Fancy magazine, I would highly recommend you get a subscription or look at it at your local library. It's a monthly publication.
At 8 months, you probably still want to feed 2-3 meals daily, at about 1 year old I usually feed only one meal a day, or - if you feel too bad with 'only' one meal - you can feed the main meal in the evening and give her just a little snack (no junk, but a healthy bone) in the morning.

I would agree with two to three times a day, in small amounts, though I can't tell you how much. There should be a chart on the back of the dog food bag to help you figure that out until you can ask the vet. (I'm sorry people were picking on you. That wasn't nice.)
It's been decided that it's better for their digestive systems if they are fed more than once a day, but I find that a late meal makes house-training much more difficult. We feed our adult dogs at lunch time, and again at supper time. They do well with this, and if they go out at bedtime, they are okay until morning.
Good luck to you, and make sure to make a written list of questions for the vet when you go! Always handy to have...

Well, if she's your Chihuahua, you shouldn't be requiring any fee. I don't think Chihuahuas are intelligent enough to do basic math let alone handle currency, unless you have some sort of super Chihuahua. Maybe that's why you charge a fee, because your Chihuahua is so smart. Well, I would probably charge on a sliding scale...nah i'm just jokin!
Look on the back of the dog food bag! It should tell you there.

most puppies have to be fed bout 4 times a day until they r 6mths old. after that the recommended way is to feed twice. try to do at a time that u know will not differ or change much in months or even years. i have been feeding my dog twice, not only once as alot of others recommend for dogs above 1 year, at 11am n 7pm. my dog is already 7 years old n he is a miniature schnauzer.
dogs have short intestines n they do not hv very good digest systems. DO NOT allow yr dog to jump about or run after it has eaten for at least 1 hr. they may hv a problem n die from it. my frien's german sherperd dog died from such a complication.
thus, the recommended thing to do is to feed twice a day n may a small treat in the afternoon.
all the best to u n doggie! :)

Once or twice a day. Dogs were by nature body designed to gorge themselves because they didn't know when the next meal (kill) would come. We have them in our homes they dont' have to worry about that. Once a day is fine - some people prefer to split it into two feedings. Just remember to pick a ration and feed half per time, not twice. If she gets a cup a day give her a half cup in the morning and a half cup at night - not a cup in the morning and a cup at night. There's more overweight dogs than starving ones and neither is good. :-(

Ask your vet how much she should be eating or check the bad. My papillon eats twice a day and she is 5 months and 7 pounds. My vet told me puppies should eat 3 times a day so they can be healthy, but 2 times is fine. But my vet also told me its up to the owner if they want to feed their puppy 3 times a day.

my chihuahua is a year old and he weighs 3.3 pounds and ever since he was about 6 months old i've just been filling his bowl up with food and let him eat at his own pace. but he doesn't sit there and eat all of it he'll grab a piece and run with it and eat it then go back for more. if it's 8 months old it should know when to stop eating i think.

Well i think in the early ages the last thing any young mammal needs is neglect. So take care of it and make it feel loved no matter how many times you pet it.
