Everyone at some point and time will be faced with situations that will be considered the worst possible things that they'll have to go through. These are things that we have no control over and make us all feel helpless and lost. Remembering that "time heals", slowly work your way to the point where the healing has begun helping to get your life back in order, which in turn will help take away the pains that have been put upon you. In most cases, the things that have caused those pains have not only hurt you but others as well, family, friends, etc. Helping others thru those times will help you as well and will give them the confidence they need to not only get through it, but will enable them to help as well. Some of us have a natural ability to reach others in those times of need. I'd like to share something with you that will hopefully help. We all think that our unfortunate situations are the worst, until that is, you've seen someone else that is hurting even worse because of theirs. I'm a father of 8 kids, 5 girls and 3 boys. Life was wonderful, we all had our health and were all thankful for everything we had. We lived on a busy 2 lane hiway and never thought for one second that something drastic was about to change our lives forever. The childrens mom went out to the street to check the mail. She was hit by a drunk driver and killed while myself and 3 of the kids watched from the front porch. Oddly enough, there was only one piece of mail in the box. It was from our local cemetary trying to sell burial plots. Our lives were changed forever. What we thought would last forever was gone in a second. I cant begin to tell you how hard it was for all of us. I pray that you can use this to help yourself in your own tragidy. With all of our family and friends helping us, we were able to make it through it all, not easily, but during a time like that, every bit helped. We had to cope. We had no choice but to go on, and we somehow managed to pull together and help each other. It's never easy and was by far the hardest thing that any of us had to do, but we did it. It still hurts every second of every day. As you can see, i'm here trying to help now and hope that somehow our loss will help you as well. Larry

I often get into a state of depression soon enough.
However, I cannot stand getting into a funk, so I try to find a way to deal with the bad news ... to make the best of it. I am familiar with this kind of shock - I've had deaths in my family, clients being shot, health issues striking loved ones, health issues to a lesser but still to a significant extent affecting myself, etc.
The way I eventually cope is I start to understand the reality of the situation and I cannot undo it. I try to make the best of the situation and work my way around it.

Accept but don't have to approve.
And valid your own feelings.
And next time, before things shock you, think of a 'back up' plans of how to cope.

WELL. I never had a girlfriend I could rely on, so I just had to pace back and forth at my secret place.

I agree with leadbelly.
There is no one method. Just go with your gut feelings. If you feel like crying, than cry; if you feel like talking, find someone to talk to...etc..
