Hell no. I don't care what psychiatrists say, I was spanked pretty often when I was a little brat and it didn't cause any deep psychological damage whatsoever. Of course, you have to draw a line between spanking and beating. Spanking is not intended to cause physical harm, just to send a message. Beatings, on the other hand, are meant to injure the child are in no way acceptable and shouldn't be tolerated.

Can I sue my children for all costs incurred raising them and paying there traffic fines ,insurance, allowances, etc. ??? What about mental distress worrying about where they are at 1 a.m. If you need to be spanked past the age of 10yrs, you've got a serious problem that needs intervention by a professional. Don't ya think we as a society throw enough money away as it is on Lawyers?!!

Should parents sue their kids for inflicting mental anguish? Unless they are being abusive, a spanking will not kill you. Maybe if you listen to them they won't have to spank you to get your attention! If that is the worst that ever happens to you, you are a very lucky person.

It is a parent's right to smack their kid when they are getting out of line. It is obvious what the difference between discipline and abuse is. If you don't need to go the hospital or miss school to cover up bruises then you aren't getting abused fool, don't even trip.
Besides, when you're a parent and your kids slip up, you'll just have to smack 'em too. There are some things that a talking too isn't good enough and you know it.
BTW- I vote for the answer above about only if they videotaped it, that made me laugh my @ss off.

that s totally crazy, as long as is just spanking and u are not really hUrting ur kids making them suffer, with wounds and things that really can be consider child abuse,,,so,,just little spanking when they are out of control it s OK, That crazy idea of USA crap government considering any spanking abuse and suing parents and even sometimes taking children to welfare shelters, that s really bullshit,

Child Protective Services is a better first step. And if the child doesn't know how to find that, then the school should be able to provide educated and mature input.
