Dreams are mainly of 4 types
1- Normal : these dreams are nothing but re-arranging of our old thoughts. Mind brings out all memories and discards them, re-arranges them or re-allocates them the memory cells. These dreams have no meaning and we see weird things in these dreams, with illogical events. These dreams are from the shallow depths of sub-consc
2- These dreams show us our past, our hidden desires, complexes and guilts. These dreams are symboic and if we properly analyse them, we can know much about our personality. These dream arise from deeper layers of our sub-consciousness
3- Future...some dreams show us our or our people's future. Many people see these dreams accidently, but those who are pure at heart or doing some yoga or meditation see these dreams often. These dreams guide us well...and sometimes advise us on our dealings. These dreams normally come 2/3 hours before waking. These dreams are vivid, clear and are normally remembered well. These dreams come from our Ego
4- Mystic this is very rare type of dream...but those who are high on yoga and meditation see them quite often. In these dreams, god speaks to us in any form we like and gives us clear guidance. We can also see visiting temples, we have never been to, or talking a saintly person....these dreams come from the soul

What do you mean by dreams?
Can u prove that this world is real? You are concious while reading this answer?
Dreams are our way to the real world from this fake world.
Dreams gives ue some hints of original world & inspires us to find our path from this fake world to the real one.
It is like an alert to us that u need to become concious that we are living in a world which is not real.
Wish one day we'll find our way to the real world.Because for man nothing is impossible!

I asked that same question to someone today after dreaming of an alien landscape. It's weird, but probably just our imaginations. I read that we dream to keep the brain alive, like a pilot light keeps a furnace ready to reignite.

One of the functions of the brain is to act as a thermostat (regulator) for the body. When we sleep, the brain is idling along, not doing much of anything. But, when our bodies need a shot of (whatever) the brain stirs itself and we "dream" to cause our bodies to react.
Same reason we are always thinking but our thoughts not directly related to survival go through so many emotional cycles.
It's just our bodies doing what they do, trying to survive..

good memory on your dreams.. a lot of people can not remember them very clearly.. lol.. i can remember so few of my dreams.. the only dreams i remember are me going around flying around my city when i was like 6.. or now, i dream of the next day.. and my brain just cycles through on what i am going to do all day.. it makes me wake up a lot.. and be worried.. i get those dreams often now.. but it is just your brain keeping itself busy.. doing what it wants.. and you do have some control over your dreams.

We see, hear, smell, and experiment our dreams in accordance with our perception of the world.
I our dreams we represent our feelings through recognizable things, such as images and sounds we recognize.
Regardless of the nature of our dreams, and even if we don't identify something, what we experiment is represented with something we are familiar with.
