Our bodies are genetically set up to protect ourselves from external threats. This comes from thousands of years ago when threats from animals and other tribes were a reality.
When the external threat becomes visible or plausible, the body automatically turns on its "fight or flight" reaction, whereby most of the blood and the strength in your body is going to parts where you can meaningfully escape or fight off the enemy.
Today, we don't face these kinds of threats unless you belong to a gang and have a real chance of getting shot; however, most of us are relatively safe. But there are such things as psychological and emotional threats that can affect us, such as an impending loss of a job, worry about the fidelity of a relationship, the fear involved in an upcoming exam you feel you are not prepared for, or the thought of speaking in front of 1000 people when you are not skilled at this type of presenting.
Your body tries to resist the threat by shutting itself down or out, making it possible for you to try to avoid it. If it is anxiety and you manage to avoid the "threat", and the anxiety goes away - the feeling you had was anxiety, but it may well be a temporary band-aid measure.
The key to dealing with anxiety is preparation, realism and knowledge. Preparation before a big speech is much better than trying to do this without preparing. Realism is assessing the real threat the situation presents. What is the worst that can happen? This is often asked of me by my anxious clients fearing an upcoming court appearance or a confrontation with a second party. Knowedge is power. The more you know about something, the better you can deal with it.

I've dealt with anxiety since I could remember... I had low self confidence because of anxiety. But if you want the definition and meaning Anxiety is basically a state emotion feeling etc etc of nervousness and feeling something bad might happen to you or a friend or whatever. I'd suggest watching Eckhart Tolle or someone! He talks about how to gain self confidence in life and how to be creative! Hope this helps!

anxiety or being anxious is a feeling one gets when they are in an uncomfortable situation or waiting for the outcome, weather it be good or bad, of a pending action. Everyone experiences these feelings in different ways depending on the outcome of a particular action or accounting through our lives. Shaking hands, racing heart, perspiration, butterflies, throat tightening etc.. all of which can be felt by us at one point or another, all at once or experienced one at a time. Your mother would not be the first and will not be the last to say this. Most everyone will have some form of anxiety in their life, but most people, like me, welcome it. It makes us feel alive! Good luck!

Anxiety is the end result of stress and our inability to cope with a stimuli of any sort that brings about pressure in our lives. We generally go through several stages: the initial response to the stimuli, the peaking of emotions and the physiological reactions due to the initial response and two outcomes - either we learn to deal and cope or the stressor is too strong and we shut down or die. People develop ulcers, get heart attacks and go through depression due to the inability to cope with stress/anxiety.
