Well I think sometimes people are athiests due to the growing athiest trend. However I'm sure a lot of religious people were religious because it was expected way back in in the day. A lot of athiesm is just anti-christianity so it's a lazy counterplatform, and an easy target.
However, educated athiests I really respect. I think it probably takes a lot of work to be a true athiest, all the things one would need to look into and consider before coming up with the answer that there is no God.
So it depends on the type of athiest if there's anything wrong with them. But the same criticisms can be thrown back at some religious people. The type of athiest you described though sounds fine.

Nothing is wrong with being an Atheist. I have recently chosen to give up religion because it made me feel that I was being hinder from independent thought as well as express my individuality.

I never truly had a belief in god and religion while I was growing up and only pretended because everyone around me was religious and each time someone questioned god or religion it was looked down upon.

Thankfully now I have realized that I do not need religion or god to be a good person; but also I am the type of person that needs actual proof or convincing evidence to change my mind..

Simply hearing and being told you have to believe or read the bible or you are going to hell is not a convincing argument, it only shows that the person is unhappy and wants others to join them in being unhappy.

i have no problem with someone being a theists; the only time it becomes a problem is when theists try to break the wall of separation between church and state down.

Nothing's wrong with being an atheist. By the way, I'm not a religious person, and I'm closer to being an atheist, than a believer. But I don't think ALL religious people are critical of those they don't agree with. And I don't think all atheists are so kind.

Some christians believe that it is wrong because they fear God and what will happen when they die. So they are jealous as to why Athiests are fine with what ever happens. I feel that as long as you are a kind hearted person, and you truely love that GOD cannot actually turn you away. If that is the case then a majority of my friends and family are screwed and that is just plain wrong.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with being Athiest. i am athiest, and it is my personal choice. i am sick of people telling me i am wrong and things like that. athiests r the same as neone else, we just don't believe in God or anything. just remember that noone is ever right when it comes to religion. if some one was right, wouldn't we all be converted to that religion? it is ok to be whatever u want, even athiest.

There is nothing wrong with being an athiest. Most people find a need, however, to believe in a higher power in their lives. It helps them to cope with, get over and accept the bad things that happen in their lives. It also helps to give them a hope and a reason to exist and continue to exist.

Personally I refuse to categorize myself, but I do believe there is a higher power. I'm just not entirely sure what he/she/it/they is/are but I've Christian leanings from my upbringing.

I agree with you. I just posted a question as to why God would take a young mother's life and let demented old people linger. From 'christians' I got judgmental answers on why I should question God.
