Maybe it's that, maybe it's that some people would laugh about anything which is not funny. I have never had a sense of humor to laugh at someone just because they fell down.

there could be several factors for folks to feel offended.

1. their sense of Self esteem and respect may be hurt.
2. that persona may not be at the same VIBRATION as you are at that moment.
3. he/she may be lost into the troubled thoughts, worries and tensions at that moment to appreciate SIGNIFICANCE of you OR ur remarks .
4. maybe, u're seen/ perveived as a bully, an imposing pompous person !
5. possibly the other person is in severe pain the cause of which is unknown to them.
all in all, always giv a wide margin [ what i term as the BENEFIT OF DOUBT] before u form JUDGEMENTAL/ CRITICAL view of that person.

It really depends on the sense of humour that each person has.
I can talk with some of my officemates and enjoy my time with them. But I have one teammate whom everybody calls funny. The thing is, he is not funny to me and he OFFENDs me.

I guess we have different levels of sensitivity AND sensibility.

Irony is dead and arch humor requires an intelligence to see what it is.

Besides, some people's views are so extreme, it is difficult to tell if they are being cynical or serious.

It depends on the person, his/her education, mood, points of view, etc... but some people is also offended with certain kind of questions, especially when they are intended not to be funny but really aggressive, mostly when it comes to sexuality, religion, politics, etc.

It's about being on the same page. Don't make a joke when they aren't in a joking mood. You know what I mean? There's a time and place for everything, when someone's serious, don't break ice with a joke...it's very thin...

It's all about the "me" generation... Let's face it we are living in a world where there is a lot of stress and people put up with a lot of stress.... You can cross the line with close friends... but with other people you can't .. it's about interpersonal space and they consider you a close friend that they would put up with the jokes...

because they are perhaps receiving mixed messages. Maybe because someones mouth is saying one thing and their body says something different. Or perhaps they are just tired of being the brunt of every joke.
