Different kind of welding sets are available AC/DC Stationary Transformer type & Dc.Generator type .If it stationary type It is purely a step down Transformer with high current sec.windings (Less voltage in secondary) some are with rectifier for getting dc out put .Say step down trasnsformer one block - rectifier one block - selector swiches for variable voltage .Some advance type are with thyrister controlled with cooling fans for various different industrial purpose.make a drg with this information

Yes! Here is a basic block diagram. If you do a search, you will find that you can weld with a car battery. Not recommended as it will break down the batterries due to extreme current draw and will mess up the cell structure. Is it that you wanted a schematic diagram rather than a block digram?
