Funny you should ask, I just happen to have one boarding with me.

I have been told by breeders the temperments vary quite a lot from coat type to coat type. From what I have seen the wires seem a bit calmer, maybe a bit more aloof. The short hairs seem very busy and barky. I really would go to a dog show and talk to breeders to get the scoop on this before making a decision.

They are Hounds, which are generally not as easily trained as many other breeds. WAY cute little dogs, just way to busy for me!

Temperament
The Dachshund is clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above and below ground work, with all the senses well-developed. Any display of shyness is a serious fault.

I love the long haired , seems a little less stubborn and a little easier to train!

Wow,you spelled it correctly! Good start. Are you aware that they are scent hounds? Come in 2 sizes & 3 coats? Now,go the AKC site & look up the breed standard.

My dachshund is a baby. If he's not sitting on your lap, he's crying. He is good with our baby and our cat though. He's always happy to see people, whether he knows them or not, but they do seem to have a bladder control problem. You get them excited- they pee, scare them- they pee (4th of July I turned yellow!), catch them doing something they know they shouldn't be doing- they pee, try to give them a bath- they pee. lol. They are good family dogs.

I have a black and tan longhair and I've taught him many tricks (speak, speak "let's go", sit, lay down, roll over, turn in a circle and roll over, sit pretty, jump, high/low five/ten, shake, dance in circles)

They are VERY nice companions if treated kindly, and socialized. but tend to turn mean if teased or physically punished.
They love children, and are loyal and fun loving.
