My best advice when it comes to breaking up is this:
1) Why would I want to be with a man who doesn't respect me, trust me, be honest to me, or who is unwilling to communicate his thoughts/feelings or to compromise with me? What I want is a man who is always ALL these things.
2) It's impossible to try and forget him. Stop trying. The more you try, the more you'll think about him. Just remember the good times. They made you feel good and they are a part of your life. Treasure those moments, but also acknowledge the bad memories. Learn from them and then the relationship was not for nothing. Use them to pinpoint the perfect man for you... what you want and don't want in a new man- the right man.
3) Rely on friends and family. Use their support and love to get through this time and get your mind off of it. They are people who really do love you and will always love you, no matter who the new guy is that is breaking your heart.
4) Know that it takes time. Even all the advice and words of support that you listen to don't sink in and make their impact until you are ready for them to. One day, when you break out of the mindset you are in during a breakup all of the love from your friends and family will make its impact.
5) Remember that it's worth the risk! If you don't take the chance, you won't be able to meet that guy who is your perfect match. He is going through the same pain as you are now, because everyone must go through break-ups before they find the right one.
Here are some books that I recommend for getting over a breakup:
He's Just Not That Into You by Greg Behrendt, Liz Tuccillo
Be Honest--You're Not That Into Him Either : Raise Your Standards and Reach for the Love You Deserve by Ian Kerner

Best thing is to meet new people and move on. I was heartbroken and it still hurts but try to do things that will get your mind off of being sad. Learn and move on, plenty of new people to see and love to give.

Wow, it will take time and maybe things will be worked out. Things are hard and it don't seem to get easy, but it will.
