Depending on how you like the cat. if you would like a cat that can play with you and almost not get tired, get an abbysinian or siamese. if you want a lap cat that will mostly likely go on your lap and be calm rather than bounding around the room, get a burmese or a russian blue. These are the cat breeds that came up with a yahoo breed reccomender.

First, I think it's really smart and responsible to wait until you feel ready to take care of a cat. If you get a kitten, you need to assume that you're making a committment of about 15 years. I'd suggest talking to someone who does foster care and rescue for kittens. That's where we got our two, and they're wonderful. We found someone's name on a bulletin board in a pet supply store who worked with the humane society to provide foster homes for adoptable cats. However, you should also remember that there are many, many adoptable adult cats out there. Adopting an adult cat means that you have a better idea of its personality when you get it. You can also look on petfinder.com to find pictures and descriptions of cats available for adoption in your area. If you're interested in a particular breed, look online for rescue organizations for that kind of cat. Myself, though, I prefer mutt cats to purebreds any day-- they tend to have fewer problems with genetic diseases and come in a whole crazy array of colors, patterns, and personalities.

Personally I'm fond of Maine Coons. They are huge (one at our vet hospital was bigger than my dog), hairy, and sometimes scary-looking, but are among the best-dispositioned breeds of cat available. I don't think I've met a mean one yet. Of course if you have allergies, you might want to consider a shorter-haired breed...
One of the vets at our hospital told me if I ever got a cat to get an Ocicat, and he just raved about them. I personally haven't had much experience with them, but I trust his recommendation :) They are certainly beautiful, but also cost more.
Oh, I forgot about the Ragdoll. If you like to carry and cuddle your pets, they are definitely one to consider! You pick them up and they just go limp in your arms, it's like carrying around a super-soft stuffed animal. :)
I can see where choosing gets difficult, but like someone said, there's always the good shelter option - those cats still have lots of love to offer! Check out PetsMart or your local humane society, they always have many waiting to find a new home.

An Orange Marmalade. Orange Marmalade's are loving and affectionate. They tend to be and outdoor or indoor cat. Although, they are sometimes protective. If you were to get an Orange Marmalade, and wanted to get another cat, you would have to get a male. Most female Marmalade's are very protective when another female enters their territory.

cats have different breeds and it is not just about an appearance!
it would be really hard choosing a cat for someone else ,cause it directly depends on your personality ,your taste and the way of your living!
there are so many sites that you can go through!

i think the shelter idea is a great one. not only would you be gaining a pet you'd also be saving one! sometimes they get kittens in as well so you could still raise them, you'd just need to call and say 'when a kitten comes in, ring me...!'
however if you really want a "new" one, just get a domestic sort. special breeds are really expensive and there is nothing wrong with domestic breeds!

I would suggest going to your local animal shelter ........ You can check out several cats/kittens to see which one you like most.
Plus most already have their shots, and you would have satisfaction of knowing that you gave a homeless animal a loving owner : )

Regular domestic short hair cats are cool by me. Plus, they come in so many colors. The butterscotch/stripe tabby is my favorite.
