No & Yes....
No, you do not have to be Airborne qualified to go to Ranger school and upon graduation you would wear the Ranger tab on your uniform and return to your unit.
Yes, you do have to be Airborne qualified to join one of the Ranger battalions upon completion of Ranger school.
Note: Because of a safety issue Airborne qualified Ranger students have to get a minimum of four hours of sleep before a jump; whereas, Non-Airborne qualified Ranger students only get one hour of sleep per night.

No, you don't have to be Airborne to go Ranger. You can be a member of the National Guard and go to Ranger school. The reason is many National Guard units will not allow the student to go airborne school unless the unit is airborne.

No, there are a few non Airborne Rangers. They are usually sending them on an Air Assault Mission. If you want to be the best, go Air Assault first, then Airborne, get in an Airborne unit (82nd), go Ranger and then Special Forces--you will then be an elite "Triple Tabber."

Yes.To be considered for Ranger school, you first gotta be jump qual. There've been a few exceptions, but they were always special circumstances. I"m diggin around for the page you mentioned, but figure they're talkin they're referring to the use of helo, or airborne deployment in a training scenario. Especially towards the end of Ranger school,. realism is one of the highest prioritys. Using air deployment's a given as it's a major part of the Ranger's job.
--btw. It could be helo, but is'nt as likely as parachute. "Fast roping" is a pretty quick class, so students are'nt required to have the whrileygig wings.

air assault is one thing..but most rangers are just ranger qualified.
You do have career soldiers that have gotten their airborne and ranger tabs. Some even a third(special forces)..
