The entire second season seemed completely off. Did you notice that L died in episode 25? And that there were 12 episodes left? Like most short animes which usually aren't all that good? Yeah, the second half felt like that to me. Like some kind of attempt to continue the story, even if it were over. The manga has a different ending, I believe, though. Anyway, I really disliked the way Light died. Why? Because I realized that he died SOLEY because Mikami messed up. Not because Light messed up, but because his servant did. What kind of bullshit is that? It is even obvious that Light would've won otherwise, which makes it all just bad luck, which is a terrible conclusion. There's another, non-canon ending in the manga where Light grows old and asks Ryuk to kill him because he is tired. He then wakes up in the Shinegami world and Ryuk tells him that he is forced to experience ALL the deaths he has written in the Death Note and then finally disappear into Oblivion. He then decides to try and cheat the Shinegami King somehow and get his life back. Now THAT would've been an awesome season 2.
