It states that a marriage can be between a man and one or MORE woman.Did you know that during second century rome marriage was only between two men? Polygamy was pretty popular amung the men of the bible. Please explain to me why people can say its ok to ignore the things from the bible they see as wrong but when it comes to homosexuality they say its SOOO wrong?

Western culture did not view monogamy as essential to marriage until Modestinus, a 14th century, non-Christian Roman lawyer, who defined the institution for the Roman Empire:
Abraham, the first Jew, took a concubine, Hagar, for the express purpose of continuing his blood line, since his wife, Sarai, was barren at the time.
Patriarch Jacob’s two wives, Rachel and Leah, plus two concubines, and produced the heads of the 12 tribes of Israel.
King Solomon had seven hundred wives, and three hundred concubines (1 Kings 11:3).
King David, who had at least seven wives, committed adultery with Bathsheba, then had her husband killed, and married her himself.

Interestingly, the Biblical multiple wives do not seem to be simply lovers or property, but full marital partners:
“If [a man] take himself another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish” (Exodus 21:10).

Who says we ignore the other stuff in the Bible?? Divorce is wrong, so is homosexuality. But we are a wicked people and we are permitted to do wicked things--like divorce and others.

I say, get off the homosexuality kick. Yep, it's wrong. So's bank robbery. So's gossip.

I had a thought. what if the human DNA could tell when the world is over populated and can make the adjustment. There is only 35 percent of the oxygen in the atmosphere and only 35 percent the nutrition in our food that there was at the turn of the 20th century, so I asked a friend,,. a non church going straight man who believes the world is over populated and does not want children, I asked what if homosexuality was an answer to population control, it's better than wars famine. And all sorts of natural disasters. He opened the bible to Romans 1:2_ and after some discussion and later that day he asked "why would god condemn gays if he created them? it doesn't make sense" I found that an amazing connection so many hypocrites at the podium can't make.I like it when things make sense and I want to clear up some confusion so listen up, this is the kind of stuff that holds up in court. There's only one place you can find any possible mention of this astronomical mistake, the only bigger mistake was the church burning controversial gospels in the second century. There is no backup or support to it anywhere else, it's not in all versions, there is no irrefutable evidence of this proposition and because of this mistake, the story has been largely misunderstood for a very long time. It is very important to keep in mind that Jesus never said a word about it, good or bad, and it's always best to follow his example and what's consistent throughout the Bible and all the versions, and remembered at the podium when speaking of Gods love for ALL his children, and if one says gays are not Gods children, one is taking an awful chance come judgment day and should remember Gods directive re judgment. These days there are acceptance issues and yes you can be gay and stay in complete abeyance of the Ten Commandments, Gods complete set of laws, nothing missing, and the complete moral code in a nutshell that says nothing about homosexuality, including those commandments pertaining to sexual morality. As long as a relationship is loving and committed it is good in God's eyes; moral and Safe, and those are the only two requirements for marriage and the rest can be extrapolated from that and Gods laws. To clarify, if it isn’t in the Ten Commandments you have to think twice if it's a sin and it still ain't.Also keep in mind there are extreme difficulties at times when translating and you can't help but loose something, i.e. an accent, an inflection . . .So in Genesis 19: there are two words in a list of sinners that the authorities could not nail, they are "Arsenekoiti" and "Malakos", so someone thought they were smart by putting in homosexual; not found in Gods laws, and look at the damage done!!! Now there are a bunch of gays believing a lie that they're sinners and the natural course of action is to forsake religion and find God's laws unworthy, and therefore, go ahead and sin perpetuating the gay stereotype of sex out of wedlock that people see when they read of sexual immorality in the bible, so now there is AIDS. I see two commandments pertaining to sexual morality, neither exclusive to gays but both apply to any lifestyle, one commandment redundant and neither mention anything other than sex outside of marriage. And more damage, our society has placed so much shame on it with so much ridicule that there are statistics on how many teens commit suicide after discovering their sexuality because it's such a disgraceful, despicable thing that you're better off dead!!! God sure has a lot of forgiving to do, how can he keep up? And further, you've heard, "I ain't crazy, I ain't seein' no shrink" Sound familiar? Perfectly Designed To Throw Shame In Getting Help Too! so the poor kids have no way out but the permanent way out! How much damage must our society destroy itself with shame? Statistic; 97% of all marriages could have been saved with a little counseling so there is more shame in getting help and less shame in getting a divorce!!! and you know how that affects our children too!So you see how people single this out and run with it and look how it got so blown out of population that people still have the crazy ides that the story is about a town full of homoes that want sex this guy who just blew in, sight unseen even, and this will look like a form of mass insanity, showing a low opinion and expectation of other people when you see the story is really about a traveler that came to a town that just didn't have the hospitality or courtesy to leave the poor sob alone to rest from his travels. Now consider this, the moral code has not changed in the time since the story, how could human behavior change so radically? How could there ever be a town of nothing but homosexuals? And at a time it seems that homosexuality was too rarely an issue?, So with the confusion over the word "yara," there are two reasons those people would be out there, one is to get to know him, the other is the whole town wanted sex with him sight unseen. The later sounds a little preposterous and the former is just human nature carried a little too far. Romans 8:28 PS Those who say homosexuality is unnatural sure don't know the birds and the bees and the rest of the animal kingdom too so don't forget they are God's creations too. And notice other cultures around the world where it is just as normal as the birds and the bees.

Honey, you really need to get yourself to a good Bible study. You don't understand what you are reading.

The Bible clearly states that homosexuality is an "abomination". Meaning, that is goes against what God intended for only a man and a woman.

People aren't ignoring anything in the Bible, you just are not understanding what is going on. The Bible is not something you start reading without understanding culture, history, customs, Gods ways, etc., etc.

Yes, divorce is wrong, "God hates divorce", but He also allows for it in certain cases. A marriage is not invalid if the woman is not a virgin. No, it does not say that marriage is between a man and more than one woman at all. In fact it states between A MAN and A WOMAN. Since when did the Bible condone marriages between two men...NEVER!

Where did you get this garbage anyway?

Some may say that since this was a teaching made long ago it shouldn't be interpreted that way in the Bible.

It would be nice to look at this comment by reknowned Christian writer Max Lucado. Some teachings of the Bible are indeed specific to a particular point in time and addressed to specific groups of people and culture. For example as regards, women leadership in church teachings of the Apostle Paul vary in groups of people since they have different concerns.

Now about homosexuality. Here is how he puts it.

"Some suggest that the Bible’s teachings against homosexuality are culturally relative and do not apply today. The problem, however, is always wrong in the Bible. The command transcends historical particularity.

"Nowhere in the Old or New Testaments does the Bible endorse homosexual activity. Not in one single verse. Eight passages condemn it outright. And these denouncements are not limited to one era or one locale. As early as the book of Leviticus and as late as the letters to Corinth and Rome, homosexuality is presented as a sin."

It doesn't say its wrong. I took this religion class. You seem to know alot about history to I'll tell you how it's "implied". Before the Advent of Christianity pple use to worship more than one god and believe in the Sun Goddess, and the god/goddess of agriculture (or something like that). Okay, so during this time, pple/farmers use to go to temples and have sex with prostitutes to reenact the coming together of the Sun God and Sun Goddess, so the farmers would have a good harvest. At these temples; there use to be sex between men & women and men and men. Therefore, the argument is that the reason that homosexuality is deemed so bad, is b/c its associated with the religion of worshiping these sun god and goddess. It goes against in the bible that states, "You will have no other God but me" "no false idols", etc. And there is the argument about why homosexually is so "anti God". there's this really good book that i read in this class i took. It's about God and homosexuality and this guys' argument why the bible is misunderstood about homosexuality.

Did you know that the Catholic Church says that homosexuality is wrong because the natural law, reason, and philosophy say so? In the Catholic Church's condemnation of homosexuality VERY LITTLE scripture is used. When it is used and if it is used, it is used only to back up what is known by other means.

In other words, Catholic don't say that homosexuality is something that we are to be against based on Faith, on revelation, on Divine Law, etc., but rather we are against it because it is against the natural order.

the book "Love and Responsibility" would be a good read for you. Don't mind the cover with JPII staring back at you, it is really just a philosophy book.

BTW, I study Roman history, and marriage in Rome never ever was between two men. You need to check your facts.

I can tell just from reading what you wrote that sentence structure and spelling is not your strong suit. I will endeavor to answer your question the best I can.

In you question, you forgot to add a comma after wrong and the words, [is it] between the words, wrong and because. See how much better it sounds now.

How can people say that homosexuality is wrong, is it because the Bible says so? The Bible is to most people who believe in God, the Word of God. God says in His Word that homosexuality is an abomination. That's why its wrong.

People like myself who have faith in God, and read His Word asking for understanding and wisdom don't ignore the knowledge we gain but put that knowledge to work in our daily lives.

You, on the other hand, have taken bits and pieces of what you read or have been told, and put it together in your mind incorrectly believing it to be right.

I suggest that when you sit down each day to read the Word, that you ask the Father in Jesus Christ name to help you understand. Then and only then, will you have the answers you seek.

I will keep you in my thoughts.

I am not talking about "right" or "wrong". But in the long run, from sociobiology veiwpoint, a community that tolerates it (including American) will degrades. A trait that is nurtured in a society will become more widespread. A bad trait will degrades a society in the long run.

I am just wondering as to why Americans can be scientific in other areas but completely foolish in this area by ignoring sociobiology. Don't talk about the Bible. Talk about sociobiology, and you can find the answer that homosexuality is not good for the survival of the community.

If you are a Christian then the bible is what we use. If you are not a Christian then you might be using a different book. But we Christians believe that the bible is the inspired word of God, and it clearly and plainly states that homosexual sex is a mortal sin and an abomination to God. I don't know how it can be more clear and to the point than that.
