Depends on which part of the world you come from.
Mom(mum) & Dad in the US, Canada and in UK. Mama & Papa are more of spanish orientation, so it could be used by spanish speaking countries and their colonies(or former colonies).
Mum & dad are probably more popular because of the influence of the US and the movies and television. It is uncommon to hear kids saying mama & papa unless they come from countries who are used to calling their parents in this manner. In the Philippines, mama & papa are the more popular names as the country had been under the Spanish rule for more than 300 years, but even then, mommy and daddy are becoming more popular recently.
As I come from an older generation, I and my siblings call our parents, Tatang(papa) and Nanang(mama) (tang & nang) from our native dialect. Alternatively, other filipinos would call their parents, Tatay and Nanay of 'tay &'nay or amang & inang.

I think that it has a lot to do with where you are from. I think that Mum is a European thing. I really don't know a single person here, in the United States, that refers to their mother as mum. We are more likely to use Mom and Dad.
