When News Lies
WHEN NEWS LIES
Media Complicity and The Iraq War
By Danny Schechter, The News Dissector
A new book from Danny Schechter offers an up to date indictment of the role media played in promoting and misreporting the war on Iraq. It is an analysis of how and why the media got it wrong that pinpoints the failures of journalism and the collusion of media companies with the Bush Administration. The author of EMBEDDED: Weapons of Mass Deception (Prometheus 2003), an account of the TV coverage of the US invasion, returns with a more comprehensive, updated and insider look at the media complicity that Schechter argues "made the war possible."
"Most of the anti-war movement focused on the crimes of the Bush Administration ignoring the mainstream media, its far more effective accomplice," says former network producer Danny Schechter (ABC, CNN). "The government orchestrated the war while the media marketed it. You couldn't have one without the other."
WHEN NEWS LIES includes the feature -length DVD of the prize-winning film WMD (Weapons of Mass Deception). The book will also include the complete script as well as a discussion of the challenges of exposing media with media with a documentary. It chronicles the media war fought alongside the military campaign and the struggle to stand up for truth.

Is this a question?
Also, you're confusing liberals and democrats. Democrats are people who don't like republicans and love sponsoring non-binding bills about random things of no real consequence. Liberals stand for progressive change and development. Also, just like all things, truth is based purely on perspective. Your truth and my truth may or may not be the same thing, and therefore, because they must be opinions in this case, neither can be considered 'better' than the other based on conjecture.

I hate to tell you this but liberals are not the problem. I really wish people would quit copying the neocons and using the word liberal as if it were something nasty. Jesus Christ was a liberal, so I find myself in the best of company. Lets see it was liberal who brought you indoor plumbing and electricity. It was also liberals who gave you a forty hour week with time and a half for any hours over 40. Least I forget it was the same bunch of liberals who made it illegal for company's to have child labor and sweat shops. I don't know but I would dare say the founding fathers were considered liberals. Afterall they were given such names as tax protestors, insurgents, criminals and terrorists. That is what England thought about our freedoms. They did not come free thy were bought and paid for by the blood of our forefathers and the loss of families and treasure. So when you calll someone a liberal what your really stating is I am not informed. I have no clue to what the issues are. I haven't read my consitution so I am clueless to what elected officals responsiblities are and since I am clueless to the protections it offers me I freely sacrifice them to a bunch of imposters who have committed acts of treason against the citizens of this nation. Because I know I have nothing to hide I could care less who they spy on. Please start reading. Learn. We need every citizen informed. They truly need to know what it is that they are freely giving away. Since they have never lived under tryanny they are clueless. Since they never studied history they are unable to perceive the lies they have been told. Since they are unable to recall what happened yesterday how can we expect them to recall the lies that have been told to the citizens for generations. Since they know more about Ameican Idol than their own government they fail to realize that its the same people in different roles. Donald Rumsfield and Dick Cheney were part of Ronald Regans administration along with others. Fact of the matter is liberals do not spew out hate and lies. Its just you have been brainwashed to believe lies and when you hear the truth you then think it is a lie. I would not call Jesus Christ a liar, but I would most asuredley call him a liberal. Become informed and actually debate about facts you know instead of repeating Karl Roves talking points.

Truth is not relative. Truth is a function of logic which attempts to use facts to prove statements and statements to prove arguments. When facts are confused with opinions (which should be based upon facts rather than emotions) then an argument is reduced to rhetoric and can not be logically verified. Proof of the power of rhetoric over logic surrounds us and has surrounded human thought since the first caveman convinced his /her fellows that the clam shells he possessed were valuable and they had to have them. Rhetoric has also aided religion. Since proving a negative is impossible the only hindrance to a religions success is left to the imagination. Finally, rhetoric has always been the primary means of leaders to secure their place in politics (the acquisition and use of power.)
It only took the development of agriculture to cement this tripod as authority and the march of civilization began.
Tell me, where are we going?
