instead of waiting to speak, learn to listen to others. Actually reflect on what they have just said and see what IMPORTANT contributions you can bring into the conversation. Stay away from speaking about yourself, that only makes you boring. Speak with confidence and bring about only positive reflections, negativism will make you a turn off. People want to be with and speak to positive people who listen to them and with whom they can have genuine conversations.

To improve athletic skills, you train and then practice, practice, practice. It's no different with communications skills. First, learn more about effective communication. The net or your local library both offer great resources. Then, if you want to hone your verbal communications skills, join a discussion group that focuses on topics of interest to you; volunteer to teach or tutor others in an area in which you're skilled; or join a debating team. To improve written communications skills: write! Write letters to distant friends and family; keep a diary or journal; write articles for newsletters or the local paper; start blogging; or even answer questions at Yahoo answers.

That's a very large question. Any specific type of communication skills, or just communication skills in general? Interpersonal communication skills depend largely upon listening, which is something many of us don't do well. We're so anxious to say something that we don't always listen to what the other person is saying, or listen to the message under the words. Sub-text is so critical, but so often ignored.
Written communication depends upon clarity, and yes, grammar and spelling are part of that.
I'm sorry I can't be more explicit, but you need to give a few more details.

I would suggest taking classes from experts and target the area which you most feel you need help in or you're the weakest. Then practice what you learn in the real world.
