it depends what she's expected to do with the money... fun stuff only? or is she expcted to buy school lunches? clothes? movies?
will you still buy the child books or treats? or is he on his own?
At age 8, I started my kid at $2/week, and she got a $.50 raise at age 9 and again at age 10. I expect that she'll be up to $5 by age 12. Anyway she is not expected to contribute her allowance toward any regular expenses, and can spend her allowance pretty much how she chooses, within my guidelines.
Good luck!

5 -10 dollars a week. Someone answered 20-30 dollars! That's way too much for a 12 yr old, even if they do chores!!

I say if they help out a lot around the house 15-20, but if not 8-12. Because if they dont help out in my opinion they dont even deserve an allowance but if so they need to be rewarded so when they get older they will have good values, and not think everything is just given to them.

I think it would depend on what they did around the house. If they had little to no chores I'd probably give them $10 a week to start and up it by dollar increments as the child took on more responsibility.

I give my 11 year old $5.00 a week for 10 chores in total and for every chore not completed she loses 50 cents.

Depends on how much they do and how mature they are...if they can't handle much...or would spend it all on candy, not too much...when I was 12 I got 5 dollars every week.....

its not much but a dollar for every chore done a day would seem decent but if your like most ppl you can't afford it and the kid may not do the chores.......so maybe $5 a week?
