I heard my Pastor preach not too long ago about those who are "truly ignorant" and have not heard His word. Yes they will go to heaven. Those who have "heard" of the name Jesus and of God and "refuse" to know him...well that's another story. God knows His people's hearts. He loves us all...even the "lost". He will never turn us away. We have the "choice" as to whether to believe in Him or not. If we refuse by " our own will and choice " after we have heard of Him...then yes those who refuse will perish in "hell". Salvation...hearing, confessing, believing, and making a concious effort to live our lives as He instructs in His word (the Bible), plus accepting His forgiveness will assure one of being with Him for eternity in Heaven. God understands we will never be perfect...though we must strive to do His will. (the Bible educates us on that will.) The work of Missionaries in foreign countries is so important...they spread the word of salvation. Please pray for our missionaries and those poor people who DO hear his word through them, to grow in UNDERSTANDING.

Even though I am a lapsed Catholic, I would have to agree with the Church in saying yes, they would go to heaven. And Purgatory isn't a punishment, it is a cleansing...we all need to be cleansed of our past...and I see no harm in believing in a place where you are basically "prepared" before you see God...
Purgatory is a place of hope, you know you're going to Heaven...Hell has no such hope, which is why it is such a terrible place. It's not the fire, it's not the supposed brimstone, it is the complete lack of hope of ever "seeing" God.
Only those that "turn" away from the salvation of Christ are not saved...and I'm not even talking about those that still believe in Christ but might not go to Church, or those that are like me(if someone wishes to know what I "think", feel free to e-mail me, but as of right now, I'm making a point), I'm talking about the people that have "heard and understood" the salvation of Christ but deny it and turn away. And I add understood because some people may hear, but if there is no elaboration on the topic, then they don't understand and are left just as ignorant as if they didn't hear anything at all. That is who is denied heaven...not those that don't know...
God is a just God...He is not so blind or "angry" that He will turn away those that never even heard of Him in the first place.

We aren't born with a sense of religion or a knowledge of God. It all depends on how we grow up and the influence of our parents that brings us to love and cherish the belief God's existence. If the supposed "someone" in the middle of a jungle were to never get the change to know Christ, or learn of his teachings then they wouldn't be brought up with the same beliefs as you or I. That person in the jungle would have an entirely different belief system, if one at all. It would most likely be the faith of their parents, tribe, ect.
Because not every religious faith believes in a Heaven, a Hell ect. there isn't a defined answer as to whether this person would go to Heaven, seeing as though to some there is a Heaven and to others it is nonexistant, void. If this person believed in the Christian faith, then they would believe they would go to Heaen, however if they were brought up without religion, or with a religion that is void of Heaven, Hell and God then chances are that they wouldn't believe they were going to Heaven, because their religion didn't believe in it's existance.
While you may be a Christian, it's good to be open and realize that because of ther large diversity of religion, it isn't dead set that yours is the right one, or the one that should always be enforced.

This is one of the gaping holes in the "our way or hell" kind of religions. All religions have the fundamentalist side that say that if you don't believe what we believe you aren't going to heaven. But how can that be given that there are so many religions and each one of them claiming to be the "right" one? Is this some huge cosmic joke, or, does God speak through humans who devise religions that suit the culture they are in and so speaks to them in the way that that particular culture understands and relates to best? Wouldn't that ensure that all beings are part of God? And did Jesus ever once say that if somebody didn't believe in him (not God, HIM) they wouldn't go to heaven? Did he? There are many ways to voice the "gospel" and it may not be the way you hear it. It doesn't make it wrong I don't think. God loves his children, remember that. And maybe Jesus isn't the only saviour either, he's just the one the Christians relate to best.

Same principle of animals going to heaven. Based on accountability. I'm not God or Jesus but I think it'd be unfair for us to say something like severely mentally retarded people AREN'T going to heaven ... they don't understand the concept...so I think that the person in the middle of the jungle would go too.

Yes, they have the possibility of getting to heaven. We know as Christians baptism is necessary for salvation (John 3:5). However, Christians have also always realized that the necessity of water baptism is a normative rather than an absolute necessity. There are exceptions to water baptism: It is possible to be saved through "baptism of blood," martyrdom for Christ, or through "baptism of desire", that is, an explicit or even implicit desire for baptism. As long as they live a righteous and moral life to the best of their ability, they have a chance of getting to heaven, and also, there is a possibility they would have seek baptism if they were to be born as Christians. Nevertheless, God is merciful and He desires all righteous souls to be with Him in heaven, whether they know Him or not. Here is a quote from one of the early Church Father:
Justin Martyr
"We have been taught that Christ is the first-begotten of God, and we have declared him to be the Logos of which all mankind partakes [John 1:9]. Those, therefore, who lived according to reason [Greek, logos] were really Christians, even though they were thought to be atheists, such as, among the Greeks, Socrates, Heraclitus, and others like them. . . . Those who lived before Christ but did not live according to reason [logos] were wicked men, and enemies of Christ, and murderers of those who did live according to reason [logos], whereas those who lived then or who live now according to reason [logos] are Christians. Such as these can be confident and unafraid" (First Apology 46 [A.D. 151]).

Imagine the God you believe in...now imagine a deep jungle baby of 18 months who dies of starvation. the baby comes to the gates of heaven...it isn't the kid's fault in any way shape or form that he never heard of Jesus. God is not going to turn that innocent child away. The child has suffered enough after all. So the kid meets Jesus who ijntroduces himself and shows the kid around.

Do you know about Abraham's womb, or paridise? Those who lived good lives but did not know Christ because he had not come were taken by Christ after his death when He decended and ascended to heaven. God is not looking to send us to hell. hell was really prepared fpr the fallen angels. God will not send us to hell out of ignorance. He will only send us to hell out of defiance or rebellion. Rebellion to God is as witchcraft.

Yes, because god loves all of his people. Why do you think he doesn't allow some people in heaven? Aren't we all his children? Doesn't he say he loves us all?
