Do Americans look differently on European immigrants, than Arabic,Mexican...?

I read about all these Immigrants feeling bad about everything around them. I came to USA 7 years ago, and never felt like an outsider. I think this country is very accomodating to foreigners. Thank you all.

I also wanted to say that is way harder to swim across the ocean, than to jump a wall...Not too many illegal immigrants from Europe.

Looks like some pepole misunerstood me... I came here legaly, and have been married to a USA citizen for 6 years...

Americans are generally very welcoming of MOST immigrants, whether from Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia, or Latin America.

I think the two groups you mentioned, Arabs and Mexicans, are in somewhat unique positions lately. Mexicans, partly as a result of recent protests, are not viewed as positively. Probably the fact that many sneak across the border regularly makes people view them a bit more suspiciously than most. Despite that, however, I still think most Americans are somewhat open to Mexican immigration.

Arabs, on the other hand, are probably less welcome today. Understandably, there's a lot of fear related to terrorism by some few Arab immigrants, but I think even that wouldn't have led to the rift that some Americans now feel, if more Arab-Americans had spoken out condemning the terrorists more loudly. Sadly, as a result of this action perpetrated by a few Arabs in our country, many people now distrust Arabs more than they should. I think that rift will heal with time, but meanwhile, Arabs immigrants may have a harder time.

Well, where do the drugs and the crime really come from? Is it from Europe? No. Assault, robbery, car theft? Mexico's a haven for all of the above. Until they get it fixed, we need more border controls. Mexicans aren't stupid, nor are they lazy, but they don't respect our border, and they don't respect our laws, and that places an undue burden on american citizens, which is why they're asking the government to get out and do their government thing, and regulate and control the border. And, while that's going on, Mexico can do a lot better job of fixing their own economy, so there's less incentive for people to have to move all over hell to find a job, including into the United States. Expanding our social services and other infrastructure to serve the needs of TWO countries is some politicians' pipe dream. Well, increasingly, america's a no-smoking area...

The problem is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and all the problems that it causes.
The Problem is Pro Illegal Immigration people holding a demonstration on COMMIE WORKERS HOLIDAY.
Displaying American Flag in inappropriate manner, Displaying a foreign flag and insinuating that they are "taking their land back!"
I used to feel more kindly towards illegals.
That is until MAY 1......S**T on America day.

I grew up in Northern New Jersey.
Lots of Eastern European Immigrants.
Lots of Germans.
And Italians.
One of my oldest buddies is Sicilian/Lebanese.
Never gave it a thought.
They had their Social Groups and they had their picnics and they had their culture and language.
But they didn't say that America was a fascist racist state and that America can kiss their asses and they were going to do what ever they pleased.
I never heard a phone menu like...
"for Polish ...press 1"
They studied English before they got here in anticipation of coming here.
and I can go on and on ....
but I think you get the point.

Sure they do.

I only hear complaints about Mexicans! Any body who looks different to those who want America to be WASP English only, single out anyone that looks different. We did that to the Americans who were born in this country when we put them in Concentration camps because they looked Japanese!

Many of the ones they really should be complaining about ( I am not) are those who come here and get a graduate degree from MIT or someplace like that and stay. They start in 6 figures!!

Absolutely we do. Americans resent immigrants that come here illegally, and some legally, that just come here for the free ride on the American taxpayers backs! Come here legally, learn to speak English, support yourself, and contribute to the USA, that's all we ask. Most European immigrants don't come here as beggars; however, some elderly Russians (and Chinese) do.

Yes, there are, there's a woman here who is from Europe and proud to have broken our immigration laws for overstaying.

The point is you are not trying to colonize for where you came from legally, and Mexico wants to raise it's border more north.

That's the .25 answer.

One last thought: Anyone illegal from any country anywhere that says screw our laws, and even worse laughs at us, doesn't understand that we are a nation of laws and really ticks us off to yell at our congressmen!!!

If you are a legal immigrant you are welcomed. Illegal immigrants who also don't trouble themselves to learn English are not so welcome.

Regarding if we look differently on immigrants from different countries, I guess our country's experience is that European immigrants will learn English and respect our culture, even as they continue to honor their own heritage. That is a popular trait in an immigrant...

Generally the difference is the legal versus illegal immigrant divide, however.

If they are illegal whether it be from Mexico or elsewhere boot them. illegal is illegal what the heck is so hard to understand. If I break a law do you think they will ask what race I am before they cuff me and haul me away! I think NOT!

we don't look differently on any immigrants unless they r illegal. that's when ppl have a problem. i don't care were anyone is form as long as they r here the right way and abide by our laws.
