First check your display settings by right clicking on your moues then selecting "options" or "display" (depending on what video card you have. Then select settings. I would recommend as a standard 1024x768 resolution and for your color to be set at either 32 or 24 True Color. Higher the better. If you have an AGP or PCIE card. bring the color setting as high as you can go. If that doesn't work. right mouse click on "my computer" select "options." Next choose hardware, then "device manager" and in that list see if there are any ? or ! in yellow along the list. If your Display icon (monitor) shows such, then update or reinstall your drivers and restart your computer.

Guess I'm just an old dummy. I have XP home and have never had 3d icons. Just went looking through the control panel, display section, and found no way to make it happen. Apparently I have the same problem as you, but didn't even know it. I'll watch this question in case someone gives you the answer.

I'm not sure wherever it is right or not but try this > right click on the Desktop and click Arrange icons by and see if "Lock web item on the Desktop" selected or not. If selected just click on it and the problems will be resolved.

Usually windows XP does not show the icons in 3D by default. Do you have a specific software application that does that for you? is it enabled?

have you restarted the computer?

Right-click on your desktop, then "properties", then "settings", then make sure your screen resolution is at least 800 x 600 and that your color quality is at it's highest.
