i read an answer on a question about Christianity claiming to have the exclusive right on morality, saying "please show me an atheist country with a better human rights record than a christian nation".

That got me to think. What is a christian nation, what is an atheist nation?

I think an atheist nation is a nation that does not build it's governmental institutions, rules, regulations and laws based on the laws of God, but on the morality of the voters. In this case the mayority of voters should be atheists.

That would mean that Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France, Switserland, and probably many others can be concidered Atheist Nations. (i'm too lazy to do research, and it doesn't make a difference to name more countries anyway)

Can anybody show me a "Christian Nation" with better human rights record than some of the above named "Atheist Nations" ?

Oh, ye of short memory. In the atheist nation column, let's add the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and several African countries I could name. That's for openers. Let's look at the human rights of the USSR. Roughly 20 million of their own citizens murdered by Uncle Joe. What a nice guy. Then let's not forget Uncle Adolph. His little run only took out another 20 million or so. You know his little run. It was called World War II. And let's not forget dear old Idi Amin. Another grandfatherly type. Why don't you get a tiny bit more information before asking a question like this.

depends on how you define christian nation. the USA is technically a secular governmnet, but since it is currently in the hands of conservative christians for the most part, the USA is the wrong nation to sue as a shining example of good human rights record. don't get me wrong. i love my country, but you do have to consdier that for most of it's history it was legal to traffic humans and women were not allowed to vote. The only time I can think of in history when nations out and out claimed to be christian nations, we had things like the inquisition and other black marks on christianity occuring. Most nations seperate religion from government. when the two cross, regardless of which religion, odds are human rights will be violated.

The problem is that there is not really a Christian nation. The USA was pretty close, but a real athiest country would be China, Cuba, Even those countries have underground churches which have some effect but not much on their governments.

What you mean is a _secular_ nation, where no religion dominates.

All these countries fit your criteria:

Iceland. Sweden. Finland. Norway. Denmark. The Netherlands. Czech Republic. Canada.

I think that the reason Sweden, Norway and Denmark etc... are just chilling there and have never came to be a super power...and America used to be the greatest country on Earth(note: Used to be) Is because USA was built on Judeo Christian values. I think thats the only reason we ever did so good...is because Christ blessed us. But because we have turned our back on him...thats changing!

I don't think there is a "Christian Nation". Maybe except for the Vatican. The USA is not a "Christian Nation". Supposedly, anyways. There is a seperation between religion and state.

Since I am not as lazy as you, I looked it up. You won't like what I found so I just linked you to it instead of putting the info here. Holland doesn't even make the list.

I'm not sure the nations you have selected are really atheists. That said, you are right about their good human rights track records.

I think that this is a pointless argument. It would be better to argue about whether atheists or Christians have murdered more innocent people in the name of their beliefs. (Hint: It's Christianity)
