Fonts are serious memory hogs. That's why they can slow up your system.

You don't want more than 300 fonts installed. Especially this is true with Windows 95, 98, and ME. Windows 2000 and XP and NT aren't as significantly affected. I *love* fonts, and my experience with Windows XP, when you have at least 512 megs of RAM, says up to 500 fonts probably won't spoil your fun.

The best solution is to get a font manager such as Corel's Font Navigator (and I'm sure there are some free ones - check the freeware sites: nonags.com; tucows.com; etc), as these little programs let you keep an enormous number of fonts in your "catalog" (on your hard drive, or on a CD), while actually *installing* only the fonts you intend to use.

The Windows font utility (Control Panel > Fonts) works fairly well, especially for *uninstalling* fonts that you simply never use. We all have a bunch of these lurking around, taking up space.

Whichever font manager (or "viewer") you use, make sure there are none of these "stray" fonts installed. And when you install a new font, uninstall it if you no longer need it after some time.

With the font managers, you can always keep check on the number of installed fonts, making sure the number is as low as possible.

I hope this helps. : )

Peace to you,
Julian

Well, not really. It depends on the free memory that you have in your hard disk. If the free space on your hard disk is low, that is when your system will have a poor performance. But since fonts are just text and thus, they only occupy a small amount of disk space.

No unless you got your hard drive filled past 1/2 full then it would start to slow the computer

Yes, same goes for anything that you install on your computer, some more than others.
