There should NOT be any punishment at all!! How the heck are people supposed to get things translated into / from English if they're not allowed to write in foreign languages?? If Yahoo! get too bloody-minded about it someone will start a similar website with NO language restrictions - and a lot of us would go there!!!

If you think Yahoo!.com is being so wonderful by having NINE whole different languages available, it's just because you only speak English!! Do you have ANY idea how many languages there are in the world? As of 1996 there were 6,703 different languages!!! And Yahoo! Answers is only available in 9 different languages!! Where the heck do you expect people who speak, or want translations from / to the other 6,694 languages to go??!

You should actually be flattered that English is such a popular language ... because if it wasn't, people wouldn't bother coming here to ask about other languages at all!

Do you REALLY think that English is the ONLY language in the world that MATTERS?

Perhaps Yahoo should put a Translate button next to every question - possibly also at the point where one writes a question. The technology is available and on an international forum such as this would be invaluable!

It would also help greatly if, having posted a question, one were able to edit it and to recategorize it if necessary.

Hung, drawn and quartered (and tarred and feathered) would be too lenient a punishment for some offences, like misuse of the Abuse Reports for vindictive purposes, but I think that posting in another language (for example, to ask in Romanian if there are any other Romanian speakers here) should merit a warning only.

I think that guideline is the dumbest of all, although now several languages have a YA of their own. Reading a question in another language is not going to hurt anyone. If you don't know the language, you just ignore the question.

BTW, I know you're not a native English speaker yourself.

Let's all practice writing "a something" that IS in English.

That's enough of a punishment for most people on this site...having to write a literate sentence.

I think that you should be punished by having to learn Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Arab, Urdum, Turkish and Latin.
By the way, you should also be punished by making you learn english
