I want my computer to stay online until I tell it to go off. I have Windows and I know there's a way to do this but I am a computer dummy and can't find out the way. Thanks for helping in advance!

I believe your problem is in the settings of Internet Explorer and its AUTO DISCONNECT feature. Try this:

Open Explorer.
At the top click on TOOLS.
Select INTERNET OPTIONS.
At the top of the box select CONNECTIONS
Click on the SETTINGS box.
Click on the ADVANCED box.

You will find two things here that may be causing your problem.

1) Disconnect if idle for XX minutes
2) Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed.

If EITHER, or BOTH of these are checked, UNCHECK them.

That should fix it.

Well, of course you have to hit OK to change the setting.

I'm not sure I understand why it is shutting down, Are you using some power saving feature that shuts the computer off after it is idle for a certain amount of time? If so, that is controllable from control panel.

START --> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL --> POWER SETTINGS.
Change "Power Schemes" to "ALWAYS ON"
Save the changes.

What kind of Internet Connection do you have?

If this IS NOT the case, let us / me know, I'm sure I / we can help.

It depends on what type of ISP (internet service provider) you have. If you have cable it's always online. Dial-up should stay online as long you want it to but has a tendency to get 'bumped off' or disconnected, that can't be helped.

I don't know if I am following you but generally you have to turn off your Internet connection yourself, it should be just randomly turning its self off.
