What should I do? My dog's upper layer paw skin is ripped. He limps on that paw but it doesn't seem to give him extreme pain... it seems like it just burns him or something. Should I add cold cream or what?

He doesn't really limp. He just stands the leg on a tip so that the detached skin doesn't touch the floor. So his hind leg kinda hops.

Take him to a vet. It could get infected and he can't really tell you how he feels.

What is cold cream? The stuff for old ladies with toxic perfumes in it?
I'm not sure what spot you are talking about. Need more info. Is it really ripped or some type of fungal infection or something still in there?
Use Neosporin antibiotic ointment if anything. You can get it at the pharmacy or walmart A trip to the vet would be best.

How coincidental! My JRT did a Houdini on me, and this time must have taken off over a large stretch of rocky terrain. I had my phone number and address on his tags, thank heavens, and he's a people person. The people who were kind enough to return him showed me his feet, which were a bloody mess. He had worn or ripped the dermis down to the second level. I called the Emergency On-Call Vet. As he was to go in for a teeth-cleaning in three days, I didn't want to bring him in if there was some home measure I could do.
The vet told me to get some Povidone-Iodine solution or Betadine from the drug store and soak his feet in it. It will help kill any little micro-organisms that would compromise healing, and will feel good to his feet. Then, I wrapped his feet in gauze and used that white adhesive tape to tape it together. Of course, he tried to chew it off. But it was the best thing to do.
So I suggest you get some of that solution, gauze, and medical adhesive tape; and if your local pet store has one of those collars where the dog can't get at his feet, I'd get one, if I were you.

Clean it out good - put some aloe vera vet cream on it and bandage it. Vetrap (sold for horses in farm supply stores) works great.
One of my dogs did that a while back - a little care to keep it clean and give it a chance to heal and he's fine.

If it is something that may need sutures be sure you take him to the vet within 24 hours of the injury. Otherwise, they likely won't be able to suture it and it will be more prone to infection, take longer to heal and leave a large scar.

if it were my dog i would take it to the vet ASAP or if not treat it with hydride peroxide so it will not get infected but the vet is the best choice.
