It depends if you enjoy where you are. If you choose to stay (extend) you may even be paid more not to leave. It saves the Army money if you stay. I stayed in Schweinfurt, Germany from 1986-1995 and have been in the California Bay Area from 1995 to Present. I have moved one time in over 20 years. There is no real answer, but the Army (except hardship tours) prefer stability. 3 years overseas and 5 years Stateside (Alaska and Hawaii are overseas assignments).
As far as signing up for the Army, I chose the Army because no other branch allowed me to choose my job BEFORE I enlisted. 21 years later, it is the same.

It depends on the needs of the Army. Recently the Army has been trying to keep the family in one place longer than in the past. The average stay in one place is 2-6 years.

Well it depends on the MOS you have. I was the longest in one place was 2 1/2 years the shortest 8 months so it depends on your MOS and the US Army is also cutting back on PCS'S I have a good friend that is in the Air force that has been in one place for 12 years.

Depends on your MOS (Military Occupational Status) There are short stays of just a few months to longer ones that last several years. Again depending on your MOS you can ask for certain duty stations. I know I did active duty back in the 1960"s.

You should really contact a recruiter for this info. My brother was in the Navy for 20 years. I know there was a certain amount of time he had to spend overseas per enlistment, but not sure of the details. You need to talk to recruiters in each military to see which one is right for you. Good luck!

It depends on where you are going and if you have dependents. I went to Fort Hood, TX for 21/2 years and then to Korea for 1 year.

if you are stationed outside the United states, the minimum is one year. If you are inside the united states, you can spend up to 7 years in that post.

It depends on your enlistment, your job in the military and your contract with the military. It varies with each branch too.
