It all depends on the dog and on how much time you have to train it. I use potty pads for my pups until they are old enough to go outside. Instead of the regular potty pads, I use baby crib pads. They work like a charm. Some chis can be trained to a litterbox.

I have two chihuahua's. I have owned many a breed of dog and they were the fastest and easiest to train. But, I did find that having one person train and get them use to the idea first and then let someone else in to show the dogs the same thing you showed them to do. I know it sounds cruel but crate training was the easiest for me.

you might need a real small potty for a chihuahua, they could fall in

As long as you're persistant they are. Use one word to indicate "potty" so that they know when you want them to go outside. Don't let them see when you clean up their mess. Let them have plenty of time to potty before you bring them back in, don't rush them.

It is always best to train them with the crate. That way they know exactly what you expect them to do. Also these pads are good for training but with them you still have to learn them to go to the door or either let you know. The crate is much easier and faster way to train.

im guessing they are--my 8 week old chi pup was already potty trained to use puppy litter box when i got him from his breeders. i then switched him to puppy pads with no problem.

no matter what the breed it depends on the dog. with dogs you must work with them.
