I have my own beliefs why people are subject to such disasters. It's science. It's random. It is the process of evolution, and some people live in places where disaster strikes. You wouldn't build a house on an active volcano would you? When that volcano erupts and destroys your village, would you say that that happened because you are sinners?

I'm just very curious as to why people believe such sensational nonsense. What drives people to surmise the reasons for a disaster to be solely the hand of the Lord?

It's human nature to want to find a scapegoat whenever something rotten happens. And who makes a better scapegoat that one's deity? It's not like said deity can come down and defend themselves.

Tralfa, your avatar is awesome! *thumbsup*

" All natural disasters are not from the Hand of God...Some are. "

Can you prove this, please? I want to know how YOU know that ANY disasters are caused by an angry deity taking out his rage on helpless victims. Is it only the really big ones, like Hurricane Katrina or 7.0+ earthquakes? Or does God also sometimes cause smaller disasters, such as an avalanche crushing a school full of children? How do you tell the difference between a God-caused disaster and a regular ol' natural one?

Perhaps it has to do with such things as Noah and the Ark. You know, he made The Flood to get rid of all the bad people. So, it could be considered wrath, I suppose. But I don't believe that he causes the bad weather now. I think those days were over when the Bible was finished.

The Bible teaches people this, and people believe the Bible.
Even the darkening of the sky during Jesus' crucifiction is attributed to God. So don't be surprised when floods and earthquakes are all blamed on God.

The book of Job is a good example where the mishap of a man is blamed on apparent sins he had committed. The book describes how God and the Devil cause the suffering of the poor fellow.

Then there are some examples where the earth opens up like during an earthquake and devours people, sending them straight to hell.

I fully agree with you. Especially when someone innocent and young dies, they'll say something like... "God needed another angel", blah blah blah... That's a way to lessen the blow into thinking that person is in "paradise" right now, and the death wasn't painful. People need religion because they're insecure about death. Religion fills that gap, and creates an illusion of death and the afterlife as being a tropical island in the clouds. People die every day. It's natural. It's REAL, and people need to start facing the inevitable with logic, not illusion.

I beleive people take the opportunity touse it to their own advantage, because they dislike the people it is happening to.For instance,at the beginning of the iraqu war when the troops were crossing the desert, they encountered the worst dessert sand storms in that area for years--why then?? well of course,it was their god punishing the invaders, but had the war never have started, and they came, would they say he was punishing them??i think not.--------As for new orleans, well you get a lot of people saying its their own fault for being so blooy stupid and living in an area bellow sea level?how crazy is that?did the first settlers in new orleans have that sort of sientific knowledge back then?

I think people believe that; and the basis of that belief is fear. It is overwhelming to sit in front of your television and see the videos of 9/11, or of the aftermath of Katrina. Vulnerability is an unpleasant thing, and we need to overcome that feeling.

My belief is that God doesn't cause these things, but he allows them to happen. Out of tragedy, great things can emerge. After 9/11, this nation came together like never before with pride, patriotism, and love for their fellow man. I believe God mourned as we did for those who died, but He also rejoiced when He saw Americans turn to Him and accept Him. Without suffering, compassion cannot come about.

These are my beliefs; I don't try to foist them on others. I simply prefer to think of God as my friend, rather than Big Brother.

if you study the bible there are many instances that speak of natural disasters due to the sin in the world, the book of revelations and isaiah are probably the most common. revelations was a prophetic book it looked into the future, and many people believe that the natural disasters are all a part of the end times written about in revelations. a part of god's plan prior to his return the rapture.

We, humans, are arrogant enough to think that GOD would be messing around or even care of our insignificant existence. And like someone else said, we have the need to fill the void. We cannot comprehend nothingness so we have to make up this whole story about GOD and son Jebus. I'm sorry, but GOD is indifferent as to what happens to humanity. GOD created the universe, not Humans.

I think what you may be meaning is the insurance companies call it "act of God" when they don't want to pay out for certain damages caused by the natural disasters. Just a thought anyway.

The brain likes to complete, incomplete pictures. If there is a void, we have a natural tendancy to fill in the blanks. People of science are content to leave it blank until a logical explanation has been proven.
