I have the similar sentiment as others here: Why is it you think 'prof. educator' is a discriminating characteristic? Any time you choose someone of the same gender (or opposite gender), you are making a declaration that will likely become notorious at some point. But since you mentioned education, my response might be: What do you want your relationship status to teach the world? Do you want to teach people that your profession should determine whether you commit to someone you love?

I am a professional educator and I would say that it depends on the community values of the students you're teaching. If you have students who have gay friends and gay parents then 'yes'. If your community is very close-minded and conservative then 'no' or keep the relationship under wraps.

I'm a professional educator, and I don't see how that has anything to do with anything. You always have the option to be discreet. Live elsewhere. Why is it teachers always ask the really dumb questions? Are we really that stupid?

Why not. I don't think that the profession you're in has anything to do with your sexual preference. This is 2006, it's ok to be with someone of the same sex. Be yourself and follow your heart.
