Was Windows XP originally installed on the computer? If not then there would be no way to reset it to Windows XP. You may be able to upgrade to Windows XP, though. Good luck!

restart disc?!?!? restore disk, or boot disk? Well, if you don't have a windows xp disc... you won't get too far... if you do you can just pop it in the drive and restart the PC it should load automatically from BIOS. If not, you can always download a boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com/ They should have everything you need there...

I also must warn you that if the PC used to have Windows 98, then I hope you upgraded the memory and processor, take a look at the required specs for XP before you go and format your PC.

if 98 works ok and you got the xp disk then you caan put it in the cd rom drive and reset no problem

2. ) any xp home or prof. that I know of can not load from dos
it has to update out of another lower form of window OS

there is no 3.5 floppy start up disk for windows xp if that is your worry.. only for window 98

if it is the startup 3.5 disk in 98se is what you are saying is missing you can make one from the control panel when you got windows up press F1 and hunt for your answer there you will find it.

Ok, first of all, unless you've souped up your computer to run XP- you're going to have a problem.
Second, and most important- if you don't have the software licence Microsoft is going to shut you down. The first time you try to go on the 'net with PIRATED XP software, Microsoft will shut you down, I saw it happen to a friend. She had to go back to the LICENCED 98 software she had.

You have to upgrade it to Windows XP if you have the software only

just so you know many older win 98 computers will not run xp vary well as they barley meet the minimum requirements and most of your computer will be just trying to run the OS let alone any programs you want to run.

I'm not very sure but I think an upgrade disc would work.
