Why not do this...instead of looking for a dog of a certain breed...go to your local pound,SPCA or animal shelter....and find a small dog in need of a good home. And if your lucky...you might just find something you are looking for....sometimes shelters get pure breeds in.

Define good. I'd say that a Chihuahua would be the best as I've known them to be the most affectionate kind of dog whereas a Pomeranian is too strong willed and stubborn as compared to the Chihuahua. I generally prefer long haired Chihuahuas as compared to short haired Chihuahuas.

Depends on your lifestyle and living situation. I have a yorkie that is 1 1/2 years old that is three and a half years old. I live in a home and have a small yard(less than a half acre) and typically work 10 hours a day. He does very good being home this long with out no one there, but when he was younger I had my neighbors and family help him with me until he was able to be alone for this amount of time. Just be sure that you provide lots of toys and love.

I have a pom-chi, which is a Pomeranian Chihuahua. He is all black, very playful, loves people, and so far hasn't shed. I hear that mixed small breeds are better, because they tend to suffer from less health problems. Anyway, basically look at different breeds and find a dog that personally fits your lifestyle, and tastes.

Don't get a high-maintenance coat, like pomeranian, yorkie, or maltese unless you have lots of money & time for grooming. Dachsunds are good. Chihuahuas can be one-person dogs, and MEAN to everyone else. Why a small dog? Many larger breeds are looking for love too!

A good type of dog is the Beagle. It's cute loving and loyal. It won't get as big as other dogs and they are the best of pets.
