i've always heard that dairy products are bad for dogs...i know chocolate can't be given to dogs because they'll get sick but how come i see people give ice cream to dogs and they seem prefectly fine and not sick... how can this be?

The problem with chocolate isn´t the milk product factor but he caffeine factor, it increases the heart rate. Can cause severe problems for dogs. I give my dog vanilla ice cream because she suffers from seizures due to low blood sugar. She also gets a small piece of cheese everyday. Its not good to consume milk products in large quantities, the only animal that can digest cow´s milk without any problems are cows.

My border collie Gael is 11 years old and has always been healthy. She was raised from 4 weeks old until 6 months on all the whole goats milk and high protein food she wanted twice a day after being weaned at 4 weeks (not my idea). After then she still got whole goats milk on a regular basis. She licks the ice cream bowl, yes, but doesn't get her own bowl. She gets an occasional piece of cheese.

I feed my dog small bits of cheese every once in awhile. I don't think that it's harmful (maybe if given excessive amounts). My vet recommended to wrap his pills in a small piece of cheese to get him to take it. Oh, I also have given him small amounts of vanilla ice cream, and he hasn't gotten sick. Maybe it is in the size of the portions??

dairy products are fine for dogs if they are used to it. I use ,cottage cheese, Plain Yogurt, cheese, also milk in moderate amounts...They love it and nobody has died yet.
Not good if they are over weight...But Puppies thrive on it...

Yogurt, cottage cheese and regular cheese are okay. Whole milk is not.
