My brother and his fiancee are huge Star Trek fans. They met at a convention 3 years ago and are totally into the whole Trekkie phenomenon. I am my brother's best man, which I am absolutely thrilled about as we are very close.

My problem is that I don't want to wear a Star Trek uniform to the wedding. The whole wedding party is supposed to dress in these costumes. In 10 years, I think that they'll agree it's as ridiculous as I think it is now. Can you imagine the wedding album?

I can't talk my brother out of this, and I don't want to give up being his best man. What should I do?

Wear it for the actual wedding ceremony.

Bring along a change of clothes for the reception.

That way you both get your way!

Wear the silly uniform to be polite if you don't want to give up being his best man. Its good manners and its THEIR WEDDING. There have been trek weddings since within a year of the show coming out and getting popular.

If they end up laughing at themselves down the line, they can only blame themselves. Besides I've yet to see a wedding where something embarassing didn't happen, whether all the guests knew about it or not. Don't obsess about it.

It could be worse. They could have wanted you in a pink tuxedo or an evening dress.

You love your brother. It's HIS wedding, let him deal with whether it looks stupid in 10 years. It's not YOU that's going to be looking at that wedding album in 10 years, it's him, and he may well say, "Boy, my brother must have loved me alot to dress like that for us!!" or "We sure had alot of fun that day, I'm glad my brother went along with it." Wouldn't you rather be remembered for that than for fighting over what is really their territory? Be a good sport. Maybe you can get him to dress like a penguin at your wedding. Life is full of give and take.

Wear it... ITS YOUR BROS WEDDING! My wedding was medieval and many of my guests had issues with wearing a costume, but the day turned out to be so much fun. I dont think there was a single complaint, it was hilarious and something none of us will ever forget

You should remember how happy you are for your brother, and understand that although you were asked to participate in the special day for your brother this is still in fact your brother and his fiance's day. If you are as close as you say you are and you love him then you will put his wants first on this day Smile and wish that they Live Long and Prosper!!

It is his wedding right? So show him respect and wear what he has asked. I am sure in ten years you will think what you wore at your wedding was ridiculous.

Just suck it up, it's only one day, it's not going to kill you, and think of it this way, everyone else in the wedding party is in the same boat.

I don't think that you should tell your bro what to get for his wedding. It only happens once in his life (hopefully) let him have some fun!
