Malta (Europe) seems to be suffering from an influx of illegal immigrants coming from the African continent. Unfortunatley the European Union and its members are doing nothing. Malta is now having a rise of pro-right wing organsations that are able to tip the balance in the next local elections in 2008. What can be done to resolve these problems?

Honestly..I think it is all a matter of perception...
Because Malta is a small island with quite a homogeneous population people perceive that there are much more immigrants than they actually is....
I think Malta is attracting immigrants because it is member of the EU...and it is close to Africa..so it is stepping stone to mainland Europe...
My solution..is give an amnesty ..so that people can become legit..and get jobs, and contribute towards Maltese society...
(And help then intergrate by giving free Maltese language courses..so they know the language)
Education is important to educate people about the wonderful contribution immigrants can make. And how a multi-cultural society is a better more interesting one :-))
Also most people who come to Malta..are probably doing it as a way to get into the rest of the EU..so if you give everybody citizenship..some will stay and have families and become integrated..but most will not..but go to other EU countries..
I doubt that Malta will become 'overwhelmed'

The main problem with Malta it's that it's already over-populated, property prices are rising sky-high and there is a huge demand for jobs even between us locals. There is no way in hell that we can suppost the vast amount of immigrants (legal or otherwise) that are coming to our shores. Let us not forget that we are recieving the population of a small village of illegals EVERY WEEK. If America with its vast unpopulated stretches cannot or will not take any more, what about Malta, where there is very little uninhabited areas left? The maltese goverment should open emigration, not accept immigrants!

I am not sure, America is going through the same thing, and it is destroying our country, and our government wants to give these criminals amnesty, while American families are starving, without those much needed jobs.
At this rate, it won't be long before it hits the streets, and angry Americans start to take issues into their own hands. I have seen so many threats against the illegal population that I am fearful. Americans have never taken well to being bullied, and have a habit of lashing out aggressively.
If you come up with an idea that will avoid a bloody civil war, I am all for that.

The main problem is that Malta is in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, so it's practically half way their voyage. it's not a problem of The EU either. The Maltese should make more attention NOT to except more illegal immigrants NOT helping them to destroy their nice island...

One of EU traditional recipies is to put visas for all from ex-yu. Maybe it'll work again, in this case?

I think we should offer free transportation for their illegals to Mexico, central America and China.

Who are we to advise them? We can't even handle our own problems.
