Why do people who believe in God, and his teachings of acceptance and loving thy neighbor always look down on those with different beliefs. And to answer your question: We choose not to support organized religions that have fueled hate and war throughout time, have wiped out societies and native peoples in the name of god, and even now go against their "teachings" of love by hate mongering gays and other groups who do not fall into their neat like worlds. If there were no religion, we would have never had the Crusades, Spanish inquisition, Holocaust or 9/11. Extremists in religions are the greatest bain to society. Religions are merely the scare tactics for ancient societies to keep the poor masses in line without an armed police force. After time, people became to weak and afraid to question the status quo and accepted these wives tales as the truth and now have commited terrible crimes in the name of their mythical idol.

You just answered your own question without knowing it, but I'll explain for the fun of it. People who do not believe in God and do not believe in the afterlife would only have this place to live, unlike the "Atheist Afterlife" you were talking about or referring to in your question. They are just living their life one day at a time trying to help mankind or not, depends on the person....

Mat 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
Mat 13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
Mat 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
Mat 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
Mat 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Mat 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

That sounds backwards to me. Why do people who DO believe in God or heaven and the afterlife waste their time? They have someplace to go!

Atheists will only be atheists until they are faced with death. Then they will drop to their knees and pray to God. Everyone believes in God but there are some who wish they didn't because they don't understand all the worlds suffering which is caused by mankind NOT God.

This world is only stressful if you lead your life trying to be :"good" enough to qualify for the afterlife. I don't worry about that stuff, and have a stress free life. You should try it sometime. Good and Bad were invented by the Church to keep their "flock" in line.

I don't believe in God, etc., but I believe in humanity and in bettering my fellow man for perpetuity. To this end, I'm willing to work and have children. My life is spent in a mix of hedonism-lite, social work, and studies that interest me intellectually. I don't let stress get to me nearly as bad as I did, as the world is a much less oppressive place to me now that it's meaningless.

The question I usually have is why do those who don't believe in God bother go through the ordeal of everyday life if there is nothing after they die? You come into the world with nothing, you can't take anything with you...there must be something more.

Grasshopper, what is so stressful? Your surroundings, you can change. Your relationship, you can change. Your problems, you can overcome.
Only you....can make you happy
If you don't believe in God, then sobeit. But believe in a Higher Power. Whether it be a tree or a lowly rock. Have respect for yourself, just for you.
