Increasing airflow through the engine is the best way to increase power. Free flowing air intake system and free flowing exhaust make awesome horsepower increases. A throttle body spacer can help with torque and also actually improve gas mileage. Also a good set of spark plugs and wires will assure that you are getting the most out of the fuel you are using. All of these upgrades are reasonably priced at www.summitracing.com

Hope I have been helpful.

The biggest problem is poor air flow. Depends on what you consider a lot of money, but the biggest restriction is the intake and heads. Changing the mass air meter and putting on a 65 mm throttle body will help some. I agree with the others, putting in a set of 3.73 gears makes a big difference (don't forget to change the speedo gear). Opening up the exhaust will also help. Install some good aftermarket headers and mufflers.

Install a set of overdrive pulleys, an intake air spacer, a K & N air filter, remove the air inlet silencer located in your right fenderwell, install some Splitfire spark plugs along with 9mm spark plug wires and Mallory distributor cap & rotor. A bit of added expense would be to get rid of the stock radiator cooling fan and go with and electric one. I did all this on an 87 5.0 with great success.
OH........and use premium gas as well as advancing your timing by 4 degrees from the stock setting.

LOL, question of every mustang owner LOL

Simple answer: A K&N air filter, it's the first mod every Pony owner does, easy, about $50........PUT SUB-FRAME CONNECTORS ON THE CAR ($100), it's cheap insurance, and more important than an air filter, unibody won't bend, car will handle noticeably better, and last longer)

it won't add power but it'll seem like it has more power and it'll be quicker too. Change the rear end gear ratio to a 3.73 or 4.10. This will also decrease your top end speed and also reduce the gas mileage on it as well. It's a common mod. Don't forget to change the speedo gear or your speedometer will make it look like your going faster than you really are.
