It doesn't appear to have a visible computer chip in the key like my old car's key did, but with technology these days who can tell.

Yes it dose.....sorta.
You can to go to http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/ and get a little box to bypass the transponder part number 791.
You will need one original key to make it work tho.

what is the color of the key the ones with computer chips are usually gray the ones without are black you could call the dealership they can tell you for sure

If its a 99 then it should have a chip in it.
