I just got a new kitten today. I called Petsmart and they told me to wash the kitten in Dawn dish soap every ten days for four washings. He said that would kill the adults and the eggs hatch about every ten days. Once they are 12 weeks they can get the treatments. Also once you washh them while they are still wet you can get tweezers and pick the fleas off and flush them so they don't get all over your house.

If it's 8 weeks you can get it some Revolution, it's a one spot treatment that last for a month, it kills fleas, ear mites, and hook worms. Great stuff, I use it on all of my cats. If she's under 8 weeks try misting her with some flea spray and wrapping her in a towel so she won't like it off. After about 5 minutes take her out of the towel and wiper her down with a damp rag to clean most of the flea spray off, that should help.

The usual flea medication you can get otc says on the box that it isn't intended for kittens. I would get a flea comb and brush them off. They may reside in the carpet, and if so you've got a bigger problem. You would have to treat the source and get rid of the fleas and the eggs that will hatch later on - requiring two treatments or 'bombs' as they call em. Good luck

go to the hardware store and purchase a small container of 'creosote'. mix as directed, about 2 or 3 tablespoons to a gallon of water. mix it up well. it will turn white, milky looking. dip the kitten in the solution but do not put his head under the water. take a towel or washcloth and soak it in the solution and dob the kittens head, ears, chin, etc. but keep it out of kittens eyes and mouth. do this once and again if needed a week or so later. once the fleas have dissappeared put the kitten on frontline. this is a solution in small packets that you tear one end off the container and put between the shoulder blades of the kitten once a month. the vet will give you the dosage for kittens.

It would depend on how old it is.
One safe method no matter the age -- a flea comb!
Get yourself a little bowl of water with laundry detergent in it. Sit down with the kitten next to the bowl. Comb the fleas out with the flea comb and knock them off the comb into the detergent water so they'll die. Keep kitten AWAY from detergent water. =)

In your local supermarket, on the pet aisle/ pet section of the store they will have many flea removal and prevention items such as Flea drops (which you put on the back of a cats neck and it kills the fleas on the feline) or injections (which you inject into the back of the cats neck to kill fleas off) or to prevent fleas in the future purchase a flea collar and that should help solve the problem of fleas on your kitty.

DO NOT USE PET STORE PRODUCTS UNLESS YOU WANT A DEAD CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hartz was sued multiple times and finally removed many of its OTC products for causing death in MANY cats.
Why not ask a veterinarain or their staff to help you pick out a safe product that actually works usually for a whole month at a time and is not that much more expensive.
Just a thought,
a DVM

Use baby shampoo. The shampoo is gentle enough for the kitten and the fleas won't survive.
