I didn't mind it, I just got tired of my daughter pissing all over her clothes. I'm guessing the person who answered just above me lives in Manhattan and has never seen a farm or camped. Pity.

my 2-year old son is still potty-training now. He's made a lot of improvement in using the potty. Unfortunately, he always waits to the last minute to go. We've been lucky so far as we always "try" the public bathrooms when we are away from home. But just today we had an almost accident. After getting all packed up for the park he had to go pee. 1.5 hours later after drinking a bit of water (hot outside!) he had to go again and started yelling. We were still too far from home (walking with the double stroller and his baby sister). I had no choice but to show him how to pee in the bushes.
I'd say bushes beat wet underwear, accidents in the car, or someone's house any day. And that goes for my little girl 2 years from now as well.

Thats a tough one. When I was little I hated hearing the excuse "because he's a boy" and vowed that I would never treat my daughter different than a son. Well then I grew up and realized that girls are different than boys and I sure do not want my daughter doing nasty boy stuff. However, when the boys are swimming in the summer and gotta pee they pee on the fence. I gave my daughter the option, to be fair and she said no. Also, road trips are another fun one. I say if a kid's gotta go, they gotta go. I am all for doing what cha gotta do!!!!

It's a guy thing. I've seen guys go just about everywhere. Girls, on the other hand, can't just point and squirt, but I have gone by the side of the road a couple of times. It beats going in the car.
One day I was in the car with my entertainment partner on the way back from a concert. He had to go so he stopped the car and headed into a grove of trees for privacy. The next thing I knew, he was running full speed back to the car, followed closely by a low-flying crop duster. I laughed so hard I almost had an "accident."

Okay, the only way I would let my child pee outside, boy or girl, is if it was the only way to prevent an accident. I wouldn't be sexist about it, if you gotta pee, you gotta pee, whether you're male or female. But I would try to find a bathroom first, even if it meant walking up to a complete stranger's house, knocking on their door, and asking if they minded if we used their's. I would not let my child, male or female, pee on someone else's property (say a fence), although I can see letting them go by the side of the highway if the next rest stop was 10 miles away, or letting them go in the woods if we were hiking or something.

I have never allowed my children to go potty outdoors. I always made sure they went at home before we went anywhere; if we would be at a park, I would either take them to the restroom if they needed to go (always kept a box of baby wipes in the car for cleaning hands afterwards, still do); or would leave and go find one if necessary. When on a long road trip, I would be sure to stop every couple hours for bathroom breaks and take them even if they swore they did not have to go. By the time they were old enough to go to the bathroom alone, they knew that I meant it when I said it was time to go to the bathroom!

Here on the farm when you're closer to a tree than the toilet you let it all hang out, boys or girls. If you're closer to the toilet and you're a girl you go to the toilet. Heck, my hubby and son STILL prefer the woods to the bathroom. Keeps me from having to call dibs when we get home from a trip;)!

my daughter is 3, we taught her how to pee outside. we don't let her do it all the time...and granted its not the most lady like thing to do, but give them a break they have smaller bladders and sometimes they have to go NOW and there might not be a bathroom nearby. so yes, i would let my daughter go beside the car if she had to. one step ahead and other companies make portable potties for in the car for those situations also.

I grew up in the woods and will squat behind a car and a tree in a heartbeat.......Kids are going to be kids tho and you can't expect them to hold it in like we can, but you can show them that facing away from view (for boys) and shielding yourself(like with an adult and a car door or behind the tree) (for girls). I try to teach them that it's o.k. if you gotta go but that we don't need for everybody else to see us going. Hope it helps.....my son's favorite spot to pee IS outside...Now if I can just get him to quit doing it off of the front walkway....lol

I don't have a girl, but rather two boys, and I don't let them go outside except for if we are camping or if it was absolutly necessary and would do the same for girls if I had them. Toilets were invented for a reason, boy or girl!
