Try chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce. I worked in a Mexican restaurant for a while, and that was my favorite dish. It's not too spicy and just exotic enough to interest you and make you sound like an experienced orderer.

Something you might want to try is a Fajita platter. Grilled meat served with onions, peppers, etc, and a few tortilla wraps. You make your own little wrap with the meat, veggies, and whatever else they provide you in the tortilla, letting you decide how to make it. It's a good way to experiment with tastes if you're new. Sometimes expensive, but there's usually a lot there so I find it worth it, just make sure you're hungry!

I always get a "chimi ranchera" which is a chimichanga with ranchera sauce. Very good. My husband loves steak Jailisco (not sure on spelling of that one), which is similar to a fajita. He also thinks its very good.

I like refried beans for my side and either chili relleno or chimichanga (beef or chicken) for my main.
