when they, do is maybe because they yawn and eyes get watery. When you feel sleepy your eyes feel heavy and sometimes itch. Why not rub them?

Because when you get tired you produce fewer tears and your eyes get dry. Dry eyes hurt. It's common to rub an area that hurts.

some people and/or animals rub there eyes whilse feeling tired would be because it feels good and doing this action is an automatic wake up call for your body...its yorself trying to wake yourself up :D

fatigue from a long day, exposure to polluted air all daycauses your eyes to dry out causing itching

I duno the scientific reason but i do it - i think it is sumat very mundane like clearing your sinuses or sumat like that LOL
...but it makes ur eyes feel better!!

Mine usually itch so I rub.It also seems to relax me.
