Well look at what mormons have said and done in the past.
1.Polygamy is probably the #1 reason they are made fun of. It pretty hard to get rid of that tainted past. (I can't tell you how many times I've been asked, "so how many moms do you have?)
2.Also mormons are secretive. No one is allowed to not only see what goes on in the temples, they can't even tell their own family members, not even their secret names!! I the whole temple ceremony is just symbolic, why not let others know whats going on. There are plenty of sacred things that normal people are allowed to talk about. Why is everything such a big secret?
The "lowly" not worthy members can even know! People within the church aren't treated equally.
3. Mormon missionaries and a lot of the members are too pushy, if someone says no thanks to a religion leave them alone. (For example performing baptisms for the dead on the Jews is a little pushy, dont cha think? they said no thanks)
4. Joseph Smith was a FreeMason, another organization that is surrounded by controversy. doesn't really help the situation.
5. Women are not as good as the men, what if we don't want to "share the priesthood" with our husbands. Women are just as spiritual and worthy as men are, maybe even more than men.
6. There's so much I really don't have time to go on & on. Just get overyourselves. Mormons aren't better than any one else and they are not the "ONLy" true church. There is no true church"
7. Oh and the thing about if your worthy you'll get to be a God oneday and have your own kingdom.
I was born into the religion so it took me a good 26 years to figure out all the crazy stuff mormons believe. But the converts are tricked, they teach them like 1 or 2 lessons and are already asking if you want to get baptized ?!?!?!?!? Once you actually study the religion, you realize what crazy kinda stuff they really believe.

Actually, it is not always people getting strange ideas about Mormons. Over the years, the mormons have given the rest of the world plenty to talk about.
Don't blame the outside world; fix those on the inside of the organization.

I have dealt with Mormons most of my life in California. I have very good friends who are Mormons or "jack" Mormons. The Mormon belief is the modern day Saint who is their leader is a Holy person who is in direct contact with God. Anything the modern day Saint says is thought as God's law and God's own words. Past leaders such as Smith, Young and many others have in the past made many "revelations" including such things as you may have to kill someone in order to save them. Any mortal man can become a God in his own right if he is good enough, and many other incredibly ignorant things. I have talked to many new Mormons who were not aware of these things they were expected to believe. If you disagree, check them for yourself in the book of Joseph which I'm sure you know is an addition to the Bible in the Mormon belief.

I once had Mormons come to my house and tell me that I was sinning because I was eating a slice of pizza and drinking a Pepsi. They told me the Bible is against pizza and Pepsi. Also coffee. WTF? How could something that didn't exist then be in the Bible? Jesus actually wrote in the Bible about pizza, Pepsi, and coffee? I think not! And you ask where people get all these strange ideas about Mormons? From the MORMONS!!
Blessed Be!

Well I heard that mormons believe in a preexistance. So that must mean they believe in some sort of "karma" although I doublt they would use that word. Most American Chritstians go by the bible and Mormons have their own book and new commandments . Don't you think thats starnge?

There are lots of strange anti-sources out there. People don't take the time to check their sources for authenticity, nor do they compare and contrast with the other side.

The crazy people that show up at your front porch preaching. I know that's not typical and that's not what i think but I do think that's why others think that mormoms have strange ideas'

the book of Mormon is complete heresy...
Revelation 22:18
18I -warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19-And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
the line about it being 'a companion to the Bible' is a lie. its not a testament of Jesus Christ, either. nor is the Pearl of Great Price. the Bible CLEARLY states, 'add nothing to, and take nothing away from, this prophecy'.
