they advertise their dog being lost in newspapers & posters posted on trees in neighborhoods ? My friend posted an ad with a $500 reward & has still not gotten her dog back & it's been over 2 months. It was a Shih-tzu Bichon mixed puppy.

if the dog was a rare breed ans was stolen, it can't be recovered. and thats usually what happens, that or it gets run down by a car.

I do not want to put a damper on your hopes, but it probably will not be found. Usually the chances for a dog being returned is very slim.
I did this for one of my dogs and had posters and ads everywhere. Asked for any kind of information there was for the where abouts of my beloved dog. Nobody replied. We did find my dog, she had been shot to death by our ruthless neighbors, and thrown into a secluded creek thinking she wouldn't be found, but guess what we found her, and gave her a proper, but sad burial. Good luck in finding your dog hope yours doesn't end up tragic like ours. I much would of rathered thinking she was stolen instead of finding her the way we did.

Rarely, a dog will show up weeks, even months later - usually, someone 'adopted' it, not knowing it was lost, and learned later it was lost.

However, in most cases, if the dog is still gone a week later, it probably is not coming back.

I guess one of the better ways to make sure your dog gets back to you is by microchipping the animal. It provides a permanent form of ID and most veterinarians and shelters will scan for the chip if the person bringing the animal in lets them know its a stray.
Ask the Humane Society for stats.

If the dog was micro chipped there is a chance later down the track if the dog needs medical treatment.

cute dogs usually never make it home. to many dishonest people out there now a days. they sell tracking collars for dogs now. a gps device to locate the dog.
if not I would make sure the next one in micro chipped.registered with the county and the local vets. tags on the collars. the works.

good luck at getting back because those are awful cute dogs and someone will probably keep it. You would be lucky to have someone so honest call.
