Starting from scratch, what brand and model of components and accessories would you get if you had a budget of $10,000 USD to spend on a brand new (market priced) high-end stereo system?

The listening room size measures 10'W x 13'L x 8'H. Wall-to-wall carpet.

If it is a home theater system, it must have everything including the TV. The TV is only an option if the system is purely 2-channel stereo.

I don't see why the tv is only an option with a purely 2 channel stereo. go to best buy and get a Yahmaha HTR-5990 Reciver ($999), a JBL - 12" 500-Watt Powered Subwoofer( $429.99), a Klipsch - Synergy III 6-1/2" 2-Way Center-Channel Speaker ($329.99), 2 Klipsch - Synergy III 8" 2-Way Dual-Woofer Floorstanding Speaker ($858), 2 pairs of Klipsch - Synergy III 6-1/2" 2-Way Dual-Tweeter Surround Speakers ($898) (one pair for the surrounds and the other for the 6th and 7th rear speakers), a Sony - 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player with HD Upconversion for your HDMI ($149) or if you want the Toshiba $499 HD DVD player, a Panasonic - 58" Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV ( $5,499.99), and $200 worth of cable/ satellite stuff, $400 for the best cables, $200 for the entertainment center, and the rest on DVDs... THAT comes out to $10,000, and its the best of the best.

Difference of opinion between my high end and urs......for what i would want 10,000 aint enough.

Anyways. some fo the answers are kinda funny, cuz u asked for a high end system and one guys resource was bestbuy...lol.

in that price range i can put together a decent system. But i need to know about the room itself. like which way ursitting, long or wide, and what kind of room it is, i mean u got tile floor or wood or carpet. how many windows and what not and the placement of speakers u would like.
Reason being speaker perform different in diff environments and so do receivers.and also televisions.

for example if u have lots of windows and lots of light u may not want to go with plasma. same with the type of speakers.

So i cant really give u a system, but i can guide u to few brands and such.

Denon, yamaha, elite, onkyo for receivers.
mirage, martinlogans, Klipsch reference, definitive for speakers.
elite, samsung, toshiba LG for plasma.
Samsung, Sony XBR, LG, toshiba for LCD flat panels.
Mitsubishi, samsung, toshiba for DLPs TVs.
Sony SXRD for TVs.

Monster cable, or audio quest for cabling of components.
Denon or pioneer elite for DVD players.

goodluck.

Onkyo, Denon and Harmon Kardon are on the least, good. by no potential are they the final. yet they'll carry out previous maximum peoples expectancies. My favortie audio equipment are Canadian. Paradigm, power, PSB. Boston Acoustics, Klipsch, Polk Audio, RBH, Wharfedale, Bowers & Wilkins are quite a few the get right of entry to point/hi end manufacturers.

Pioneer 43" Elite plasma (best TV I ever saw), Denon receiver (3806?), Denon DVD player, Tivo recorder ( I like my Pioneer, but they don;t make Tivo boxes anymore), and Boston Acoustics or KEF speakers.
