I have super curly and thin hair and everytime I ask anyone about getting layers i get two different answers. One is that kayers get lost in curly hair and the other is that layers look great in curly hair. Can anyone help me? Do layers help or hurt curly hair?

my hair is curly and thin. So, i questioned myself the same question. Then 1 week ago I went to Salon and they did my layers - I mean alot of layers. My hair in the back is shaped like a V all the way down. But, it looks awesome. Now this weekend am plan'n to do highlights. Girl, go 4 it! I did and I dont' regret it. Just be careful who you choose to cut your hair. Not everyone can cut curly hair! We have special hair! Go to a professional! It's worth it - now with the summer!

Well if your hair is naturally curly I would think it would be hard to maintain layers..Think about it,your hair will always curl up even if you get it in layers. Unless you really straighten it out..put some kind of perm. It would be difficult and you would probably just go back to leaving your hair curly again if you didnt find a way where you could leave the layers permanently or atleast for a full day. Think about it, atleast if you leave your hair natural, if you decide to straighten it one day you could, and then the next day curly. You wouldnt have to worry too much about maintaining it in one style you know?..However, layers is always a nice style to try out.

I say get the layers. Layers are generally to give your hair more body, or lift. If your hair is thin, this will make it (should make it) look thicker and fuller.
The only down side I could see is if they get lost in your hair and it just looks the same as it did before.
Try it. See what happens. There doesn't seem to be much to lose.

For curly hair, layers are good. It takes away the bulk without taking away the length. Does your hair seem to spread out and get wide when its dry? Then layers are probably for you.

Well since your hair is already thin, I suggest that it's best not to get layers. Layers make the ends of your hair thin, and you can get split ends easily.
