Well to be honest, probably diesel mechanic would be your best choice. The aircraft mechanic field will offer you a lot of excitement and a better chance of traveling though.

The market for the aircraft mechanic is much smaller than the vehicle mechanic. A lot of the jobs (parts repair jobs), are being out sourced to Mexico. You will always need a line mechanic to fix the plane but you can send your parts elsewhere to rebuild them. As a diesel mechanic you can find a position just about anywhere! With aviation you are limited to the major hubs until you build up seniority.

Tell you what, do the Crew Chief thing and get your A&P license. Then while your still in find a local diesel mechanics school, use your G.I. Bill (around 40G now), and after you seperate or retire you can do that and then move into a middle management position.

In the AF after about 10 to 12 years you really aren't physically working that much anymore, mainly supervising and controlling maintenance. I always recommend that you get out there and continue to get your hands dirty from time to time when your in a supervisory or a management position. Your troops will respect you more for it.

Both are good!!!

I would say Aircraft Mechanic. Then you can get a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical engineering. They offer that through Embry Riddle in the military.

Remember though Aircraft Mechanics are one of the hardest working specialities in the AF. You'll be working long, erradic hours. And going on alot more Temporary deployments.

But you can choose Aviation Electronics, HVAC, Jet engine mechanic.....there is so much.

i have been a crew chief in the air force for 7 years. i have worked on B-2 bombers and now on F-16s. Working on the flight line is a blast. I would say that you want to be a aircraft mech.

Vehicle Mechanic.

There are very few airports in the Nation. And major ones have thier own mechanics.

Every grease monkey can be an auto mechanic, but a good Diseal Mechanic is a neccesity with all the trucks on the road these days...

I wish you well..

Both are good careers.

You may make more money being an aircraft mechanic. That is when you re-enter the civilian world.

Good luck
